ATSC Tuner from Contemporary Research Delivers 1080p, Full Control

Contemporary Research is an Addison, Texas-based manufacturer of HDTV RF coax and IPTV products, and not too long ago it added to its line of products with the introduction of its 232-ATSC 4 ATSC Tuner.

The Skinny: The Southwestern company says the product is a commercial television tuner that can receive analog and digital off-air signals, and QAM cable channels.

The Specs: Controllable through the choice of IR, RS-232 or IP, the company says the product is designed to install easily and when combined with its AMX, Crestron, Extron and RTI modules, it integrates into today’s top automation and control systems.

The 232-ATSC 4 incorporates features such as MPEG-4 playback capabilities for use with satellite TV channels, and it fits in an 1RU rack space.

“With every ATSC tuner generation, we like to keep what works and add new features requested by our customers,” states Scott Hetzler, president of Contemporary Research. “To assure compatibility with RF systems driven by commercial DirecTV and Dish in-house TV channels, we’ve added the ability to tune MPEG-4, as well as standard MPEG-2 programs. All channels can be scaled up to 1080p. At the same time, the new 232-ATSC 4 Tuners are fully compatible with RS-232, Ethernet and IR commands for previous ATSC tuners.”

Solutions: Contemporary Research says the 232-ATSC 4 will carry a suggested list price of $1,055, and it will be begin shipping the week of Nov. 3.

In the field, the product can be used for hospitality and other similar installations.
