AVNation‘s Tim Albright sits down with Dave Silverstein, Justin Kennington, and Tom Barnett of Crestron Electronics to get the inside scoop on what’s going on in the Crestron booth at InfoComm 2014.

The Crestron booth had three main focuses this year: education, control, and 4k.

The collaborative classroom essentially takes the idea of interactivity and moves it into the classroom. The aim is to change the education program by recording teachers’ lectures and making them available as homework. When the lecture becomes homework, the typical “homework” just as research, problem solving, and projects become what students do in the classroom (referred to as flip classrooms).

“It’s not just dropping a bunch of huddle spaces in the classroom; it’s a much larger solution,” says Dave Silverstein, director of channel development at Crestron. He goes on to speak about how the company is making this possible.

Albright also speaks with Kennington and Barnett about 4k. If you were on social media at all during the InfoComm show, you probably saw Crestron’s Twitter hashtag #4kalready.

Kennington explains how Crestron predicts and makes “big bets” on the future of technology. For example, the company built its DM switchers and chassis to be adjustable as resolutions expanded, so not just 4k ready, but adaptable to even higher resolutions in the future. Hence the hashtag. The team also talks about how they get their message about 4k out to the integrator and to the end user.

Finally, AVNation tours the Digital Media Lab section of the Crestron booth. Kennington demonstrates Creston’s 4k cabling, explaining the challenges o 4k and how digital media helps solve them. He also demos HDBaseT cabling, calling the system the “golden reference standard for how to do HDBaseT.”

There’s a lot to learn in this AVNation video — it’s definitely one not to miss:
