BenQ, NanoLumens Among Those Celebrating Veterans Day

Published: 2015-11-10

A pair of manufacturers are making sure their presence is felt on the day set aside every year to honor the men and women of our military, as both BenQ America Corp. and NanoLumens are celebrating Veterans Day—but in very different ways.

BenQ America Corp. recently announced a new partnership with OurVetSuccess, producer of the Triumph Games, that will provide RL2460HT gaming monitors for the eSports segment of the games through the BenQ Cares community outreach program.

“Supporting activities such as the Triumph Games is what BenQ Cares is all about,” said J.Y. Hu, VP of business line management at BenQ America. “By raising awareness for our veterans, BenQ is able to increase its role in giving back to the community. We are proud to have provided our monitors for the competition’s gaming segment and look forward to celebrating these inspiring veterans.”

The 2015 Triumph Games is dedicated to telling the stories of U.S. military veterans’ ability to adapt and succeed. In the 2015 Games, 12 world-class veteran athletes earned invitations to participate after qualifying through a rigorous nomination and selection process. Sports organizations such as the International Olympic Committee, the Paralyzed Veterans of America, and SoldierStrong nominated each athlete based on honorable military service and athletic achievements, including previously winning national and international medals in their respective sports.

The competition follows the athletes as they train from home over eight weeks and gear up for three rounds of competition including a triathlon, a live broadcast video gaming competition, and a motorsports challenge.

During the gaming segment, athletes competed in top strategy games, such as Hearthstone, on BenQ’s RL2460HT gaming monitors. The winning athlete is awarded $100,000 after three rounds.

CBS Sports Network will air the one-hour primetime television special on Veterans Day at 7 and 10 p.m. ET.

At NanoLumens, CEO Rick Cope, a retired U.S. Marine Corps officer who served as the Special Operations Advisor to General Norman Schwarzkopf during the Desert Storm Gulf War, will devote a full day to veterans at the company.

Cope will convene a Town Hall meeting of employees on Veterans Day, where he will talk to them about the military experience and the sacrifices involved. Company leaders have compiled a list of 25 veteran-related organizations whose needs will be discussed by employees, who will then develop ideas to help these organizations as a company.  NanoLumens employees who are veterans themselves will talk about their experiences in the military and the impact their service has had on their lives.

“It’s all just too easy for most of us to overlook or forget that these young Americans put their lives, and the lives of their families, on the line each and every day of their service to their country,” says Cope. “We don’t want anyone to ever forget, least of all our employees, some of whom are military veterans.”

“In the rush of everyday life, it’s easy to forget that we owe our freedom to the men and women who have served and who are still serving in our military. Every American who is not in the service of their country owes those who are a great expression of their gratitude. Thanksgiving is several weeks away, but we can all give thanks to our veterans on Wednesday, and every other day of the year,” he says.
