Cleerline Non-Strip Fiber Still Requires Stripping, Earns a Name Change

Cleerline Technologies corrects the terminology and usage directions for its Non-Strip Fiber (NSF).

If you are familiar with Cleerline Technologies’ Non-Strip Fiber (NSF), you know the meaning behind the name is that NSF does not require a stripping tool during installation.

But if you’ve worked with NSF, you may have realized it still requires stripping. Your fingernails will do for easy stripping, instead of a stripping tool, but the acrylate still needs to be removed from the 125um hybrid cladding.

Cleerline issued a recent press release recognizing this difference and officially changing the product’s name from NSF to SSF-H and SSF-S. SSF stands for Stronger, Safer, Faster, and the -H stands for Hard, and -S stands for Soft.

“We felt the terminology Non-Strip Fiber was misleading and an inaccurate description of the properties of the product in general,” says Cleerline in the PR.

As for the Hard and Soft: the Soft Peel version will remain the company’s core product, offering “smaller profile constructions with enhanced durability.” The Hard Acrylate offers the ability to meet industry standard in specific instances where a 900um tight buffer is required.

“The usages for these two different acrylate types will become easier to delineate for our current customers and future fiber customers,” says Krista Bergman-Haughey, Director of Sales for Cleerline Technology.

The newly named SSF Fiber utilizes a patented coating as an integral part of the cladding that is meant to stay on the glass and is sized to fit standard connector diameters. This coating also enables the fiber to meet a mechanical fatigue rating of n=30 vs. the competitions n=20 which translates into 10,000 times bendability, and up to 200 times the durability of 125um glass cladded fiber.

Cleerline affirms that its fiber cables deliver ease-of-termination by cutting down the time-consuming process of stripping down to bare glass fiber using a stripping tool.
