Greene Wins Drunk Unkles Twitter Contest

After earning kudos for creativity during the BLC, he lapped the field during the InfoComm 2014 battle.

When it was time to award Shure noise-isolating earbuds to the two most prolific tweeters at the NSCA Business and Leadership Conference earlier this year, there was a lot of number-crunching, formulas and overtaxed journalists’ brains before coming up with the winners.

But when the Drunk Unkles and NSCA Education Foundation paired up to award a limited-edition Beats Mixr headset to the man or woman who used Twitter best to spread the gospel of the world-famous Drunk Unkles and their charity show during InfoComm 2014 with AV rapper Phillip “Hi Phi” Cordell in Las Vegas, there was one clear winner—and he never left the comfy confines of Philadelphia.

Congratulations to John Greene, VP of sales and marketing at Advanced AV, for his big win. He isn’t sure yet what he’ll do with his new headset, but Doug U. Carota—the stuffed carrot pal Greene picked up at the BLC—has had his eyes on the package since it arrived. If it’s possible to be orange with envy, we’re pretty sure that’s what’s going on right now between John and Doug.

“I’m thrilled to hear that our good friend and Unks ‘super fan’ John Greene won this contest,” says NSCA executive director Chuck Wilson, who was fairly prophetic in predicting “a new round of headset-wearing carrot guy photos entering the Twitter-sphere.”

“This was fun and it gave us another layer of communications to inform and remind people of the event,” says Wilson. “Even those who couldn’t attend felt connected to our event using the live Twitter feed (and #drunkunkles hashtag).”

Greene wrote about why he “attended” InfoComm 2014 through social media for AV Nation, then talked about the experience at the end of a recent episode of AV Week:

It’s something he says he’ll consider doing again, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to learn others follow his lead. Then again, if he’d missed the BLC, he and Doug never would’ve met each other.
