Published: 2014-08-11

It’s easy to take for granted—especially when doing it multiple times every day—cutting cables. For electronics professionals, this task is done countless times over the course of a day or week.

The latest tool from the Lincolnshire, Ill.-based company Klein Tools is designed to cut a variety of cables cleanly and easily without damaging the cutters. Klein’s new Coax Cable Cutter (catalog No. VDV600-096) is said to be a multi-functional cutter that is optimized to cut copper-clad steel coax, as well as other types of steel, copper, and aluminum wires.

Klein points out the CCS tool is designed and manufactured to withstand the daily rigors of cutting nearly any type of cable without damaging the cutters or the cabling product. Tradesmen ranging from custom electronics installers and security technicians to electricians and data/voice/video professionals can use the tool every day without worrying about the cutters faltering.

“The number of tools that a typical journeyman requires on the job can be considerable let alone expensive. For example, if the correct wire cutting tool is not at hand, a substitute may used as a quick fix causing early blade degradation of the tool and safety concerns for the user,” says Sean O’Flaherty, senior product manager, Klein Tools. “The Klein Coax Cable Cutter [CCS] first and foremost, cuts copper-clad steel coaxial cable without blade degradation or cable deformation, but it is also equally proficient when cutting other data and communication cables such as twisted pair, thus delivering on multi-functionality and convenience at a lower cost.”

Some of the specific features built into the Coax Cable Cutters include:

  • Specialized notched blades that withstands cutting steel cable, including copper clad steel (CCS) coaxial cable such as RG-59, RG6/6Q, RG-7 and RG-11
  • Blade geometry ensures copper-clad steel (CCS) retains form when cut to support easy insertion into connectors
  • Cutters made from through-hardened U.S.-made steel, and manufactured with hot-riveted joints for increased durability
  • Ergonomic elements such as high-leverage handles facilitate one-handed operation, and the tool’s plastic-coated grips are designed for comfort
