New ATC Monitor Improves Upon Original Design

Published: 2014-09-08

In anticipation for the upcoming Audio Engineering Society Show in Los Angeles this October, the British audio manufacturer ATC has introduced its latest professional near-field monitor.

The Skinny: According to the U.K.-based manufacturer, the new SCM20ASL Pro MkII near-field monitor improves upon the company’s original product through the addition of several design updates.

The Specs: ATC says the newly updated speaker shares its two-way design with its predecessor, but it now includes ATC’s latest 6.5-inch “Super Linear” driver and 1-inch dual-suspension tweeter.

“ATC is well-known for designing and building studio monitors that are unflinchingly truthful and that help engineers deliver mixes that translate everywhere,” says Brad Lunde, president of TransAudio Group. “ATC founder Billy Woodman and his team of R&D engineers never tire in the pursuit of perfection, and improvements to the passive SCM20PSL Pro MkII led to parallel improvements in the active the SCM20ASL Pro MkII.”

Other updates to the speaker include the addition of the company’s latest Class A/B amplifier that is capable of delivering 200 watts to the woofer and 50 watts to the tweeter, and a redesigned cabinet that built with a heavily braced MDF construction.

ATC adds it’s also revised the user interface of the speakers to provide more input sensitivity control options and a low-frequency shelf control to help users achieve a better balance in difficult acoustical environments.

Solutions: ATC says the speakers can be used in near-field audio environments, including surround applications.
