If you’re a commercial integrator who’s new to the so-called Twitter-verse, you might be wondering if it’s a waste of time.

We’re here to help you traverse your way through some of the clutter and find some #AVtweeps we think you must follow.

Let’s set aside some of the obvious choices, like Commercial Integrator (@commintegrator), editor Tom LeBlanc (@leblanctom), managing editor Arlen Schweiger (@schweiger0825) and senior writer Craig MacCormack (@CraigMacCormack). Stick with them and you’ll get all the news you need.

And don’t forget to check out our contributors, including Daniel Newman (@danielnewmanUV), Mark Coxon (@OrangeProAV) and Jeffrey Miranda (@NeoLogicSound).

Widening the net a tad, here’s a closer look at who you should follow - and why. We steered clear of including specific manufacturers or dealers because, like celebrities and parody accounts, we view those as more personal preferences. Let us know if we missed any of your favorites. We’ll be happy to put together “The List: Part Deux” in the future.

@InfoComm - Brings you inside the world of InfoComm International, which hosts the industry’s biggest show every June. The organization is the hub for many A/V efforts, including the new STEP Foundation.

@NSCA_systems - The feed for the National Systems Contractors Association is a handy conduit to video clips from executive director Chuck Wilson, industry news and analysis.

@CompTIA - This is a great resource for IT news and analysis of industry trends.

@ProjectGreenAV & partner @GinaSans - If you’re focused on environmentally-friendly integration practices these are “must-follow” accounts. They’ll tell you all about the best ways to save your clients money and save the planet.

@AVJobListings - If you love the A/V industry, but have had your fill of your current place in it, this is the place to look for new opportunities and challenges. The feed is relatively new, but seems to be fairly comprehensive in its listings so far.

@DSExpo & @DSFederation - Whether you’re already installing digital signage or looking to break into this ever-expanding space, there is no better resource to connect with all the industry’s top players - both the hardware and the people.

@ISCEvents & @ASIS_intl - You can feel secure that you’ll get plenty of good information about the best surveillance and security news from these two organizations.

@WomeninAV - This fledgling group is working to remind us all that the A/V industry isn’t just a good old boys’ network anymore. Women are and will continue to establish themselves as important players in the field. And, yes, men are welcome to follow this feed.

@AVNationTV - This feed is the home of “AV Week,” the weekly podcast hosted and created by Tim Albright (@tdalbright). The sessions feature guests who opine on the latest A/V industry news, often with tongues firmly planted in cheeks but always with the goal of moving the industry forward.

@AV_chat - This feed focuses on the regular Twitter-based #AVchat sessions that bring some of the industry’s top thinkers - and a few who want to become part of that group - together to hash out a variety of topics, from the economy to social media to green A/V to customer service and beyond. Moderators include @AVwriter and @PKaudiovisual, and the gatherings occasionally feature guests who answer questions from the “audience” in 140 characters or less.
