IMS Engineering Products has been around for over six decades, manufacturing racks and enclosures for various commercial integration vertical markets including aerospace, defense, data and IT, test and measurement, security, government and financial.
Installer’s Choice is IMS’ brand designed exclusively for the A/V industry. CI recently caught up with Kevin Groom, VP of sales and marketing, to find out a little more about what Installer’s Choice provides to integrators.
How do you design the Installer’s Choice product?
Groom: We gathered a group of more than 30 installers from the A/V industry and asked them what they would like see in a rack system. We then developed our product based on their feedback and our past design and manufacturing experience. Our products do not launch until they pass our internal standards and those of the industry professionals.
Where are your racks designed and manufactured?
Groom: All of our products are designed and manufactured in the U.S.A. We are located in a 300,000-square-foot facility in Des Plaines, Ill. All of the processes used to manufacture our racks are housed in this facility.

How do your products differ from other manufacturers?
Groom: We have a standard that we set for ourselves and our customers. Our internal performance standards exceed the typical industry standards. We are customer focused and want to save our customers time and money through the entire cycle. We do this by using our web based online configurator where our customers can build a rack to their exact specifications.
Once their configuration is built they can order the entire bill of materials using just one part number. When our customers order a welded rack we build and assemble the entire rack system in our factory, saving dealers valuable time and money. Our welded racks are offered in ten standard colors and we also offer custom modifications to our racks without significantly impacting lead-time.
