Sony 4K Projectors Utilize Laser-Phosphor Light Source

Published: 2014-11-05

There is arguably no company with more at stake concerning the growth of Ultra HD/4K video technology than Sony.

The popular electronics manufacturer has made a major commitment to the format, and highlighting just how much Sony has committed to Ultra HD, it showcased two major products as part of its 2014 InfoComm show activities.

The first of these new 4K products is SRX-T423 4K SXRD projector. This projector offers a 4096 x 2160 resolution and the ability to produce as much as 30,000 lumens for high-brightness applications. Designed for command centers, simulation, education and government settings, the SRX-T423 garnered a lot of attention during the show.

Laser Light Source Highlights New Projector

Sony’s other product is just as noteworthy. Engineered for short-throw installations, the new VPL-GTZ1 can be used for business-to-business (B2B) applications such as museums, design simulation, training simulation, corporate, education and video walls.

Internally the VPL-GTZ1 utilizes Sony’s 4K SXRD chipset, as well as a laser-phosphor light source that enables the projector to produce as much as 2,000 lumens color brightness.

Designed to throw images as large as 147 inches diagonal, the VPL-GTZ1 can also zoom down to images as small as 66 inches to provide dealers with a versatile solution that allows for placement ranging from zero to seven inches from screens, whiteboards and other white surfaces.

‘Maintenance-Free’ Low Cost of Ownership

Externally, Sony employs its latest industrial designs to help facilitate the projector’s installation into a variety of interior spaces, and Sony says the projector’s low-noise fan is engineered to keep the unit cool without creating disruptions due to fan noise.

The company adds that the projector is engineered to deliver 20,000 hours of maintenance-free operation, which it says provides businesses a “substantial” cost-of-ownership savings. Other options include the ability to blend multiple projectors with the aid of third-party software, and it includes convenient on/ off capabilities for use in busy meeting places and other environments.

Additional features:

  • Sony SXRD 4K engine (4096 x 2160 resolution)
  • Laser-phosphor light source produces 2,000 lumens color brightness
  • Projects images as small as 66 inches and images as large as 147 inches
