Western Digital Introduces My Book Live Duo Hard Drives

Next to infrastructure and network speed, the most important component of a network regardless of whether it’s in a home or business location is its storage and backup capabilities.

Today’s multimedia environment places an additional burden on a network’s infrastructure, throughput and storage capabilities, and arguably the easiest element to address out of these three components is storage.

Helping electronics professionals to address the storage element of a home’s or business’ network is Western Digital (WD). Adding to its line of desktop storage solutions for residential and business applications, the Irvine, Calif.-based company has announced its My Book Live Duo line of hard drive products.

WD says the products are designed to provide users with high storage capabilities, fast file transfer speeds and the ability to create secure cloud storage.

FEATURED REPORT

“From creative pros and expert consumers, to everyday content creators – people with large amounts of data will find My Book Live Duo the fast and reliable way to offload content from their computers, organize it in a single location and protect it with backups, passwords and encryption,” says Jim Welsh, executive vice president of content solutions and worldwide sales at WD. “My Book Duo offers super-fast transfer speeds, massive capacity and integrated WD Red drives to provide the ultimate desktop storage solution for all your digital libraries.”

The line of products offers a choice of 4TB, 6TB and 8TB storage capacities that all supported by WD’s companion SmartWare Pro software tool that enables users to create local cloud- and system-level backups for thorough backup protection.

Some of the standard features built into the line of products include USB 3.0 to support connection speeds as fast as 290Mbps, and RAID 1 technologies through the use of the company’s WD Red hard drives that allow electronics professionals to setup the drives up for data protection or JBOD configurations. WD explains that when used in a “mirror” mode the drives maintain a second copy of all digital files for real-time data backup with one drive storing all of the user’s data and the second drive duplicating the data on the first drive.

Other features offered with My Book Live Duo include 256-bit security encryption, and provisions to work with Mac computers. WD backs the storage products with limited two-year warranties, and it says the MSRPs range between $280 and $450 for the product line.
