Tim Brooksbank, CEO of Calibre, will stay on as managing director of Calibre UK Ltd, which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Coretronic.

Calibre, a U.K.-based maker of image processing technology that has been a fixture in the AV integration market, has been acquired by Coretronic Corporation, Taiwan.

According to a joint press release, Coretronic manufactures the largest number of DLP projectors in the world and is the ODM supplier to the majority of the world’s tier 1 DLP projector brands. It reportedly generated $2076.5 million in 2016 revenue.

In acquiring Bradford, a Yorkshire-based privately held company, the company adds to its arsenal Calibre’s HQUltra image processing technology and in-house R&D capabilities.

The acquisition “reflects Coretronic’s strategy to strengthen its leading position in display and image processing technology with a rich set of capabilities afforded by the Calibre team,” says SY Chen, president.

“The acquisition will accelerate the company into new markets as well as help Coretronic continue to drive its move to being an all-round display systems provider. In particular Calibre will leverage Coretronic Group’s wide reaching sales coverage and growing pro-av channel sales, particularly in Asia, North America and Europe.”

Acquiring Calibre, a U.K. Institution

Tim Brooksbank, CEO of Calibre, will stay on as managing director of Calibre UK Ltd, which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Coretronic.

Calibre and Brooksbank bring an impressive AV industry legacy to Coretronic. In 2012, Calibre’s imaging processing products won The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, a prestigious recognition by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills Enterprise Directorate.

“It shows that there are companies and people in Britain who are still prepared to work hard and to earn for themselves and the economy as a whole,” said Brooksbank said at the time of the award prior to meeting with Queen Elizabeth II.

In the press release, Brooksbank says Calibre is delighted to become part of Coretronic. “We share a common entrepreneurial ethos driven by market development, innovation and above all customer satisfaction. This opens up new opportunities for Calibre’s technology, products and staff as part of the worldwide Coretronic Group.”
