Shure Opens Second Manufacturing Facility in Mexico https://www.commercialintegrator.com/news/shure-second-manufacturing-facility-juarez/ https://www.commercialintegrator.com/news/shure-second-manufacturing-facility-juarez/#respond Thu, 29 Feb 2024 21:32:12 +0000 https://www.commercialintegrator.com/?p=129026 Shure's expansion in Juárez will create 500 jobs over ten years, boosting its global supply chain to satisfy increasing customer needs.

The post Shure Opens Second Manufacturing Facility in Mexico appeared first on Commercial Integrator.

]]>
Global audio manufacturer Shure announced it has opened a second manufacturing facility Juárez, Mexico. Recently, members of Shure’s board of directors and executive staff traveled to the manufacturing facility there.

In the 1980s, founder S.N. Shure personally selected the city of Juárez as the location of Shure’s first manufacturing facility in Mexico. Production began on Oct. 1, 1984, with only ten associates in a rented building. Shure moved its operations to a new Shure-owned facility in 1990. In 2004, Shure expanded the plant space by 15,000 square feet. The expansion continued to 21,000 square feet in 2006.

With the continued growth, it finally came time to open a second facility. This new facility allows for even greater product manufacturing capability, says the company. More than 130 associates from both plants gathered to share in the grand opening. The ceremony began with an introduction by Monse Luna, Juárez HR manager. Shure President and CEO Chris Schyvinck and Juárez Plant Manager Juventino Herrera delivered a welcome speech and a brief overview of the project. Jamie Griffin, SVP and chief supply chain officer, emphasized the importance of the facility and its impact on the company and to the region.

“We have a long and successful history here and we want to continue to leverage this legacy as we support our customers,” says Griffin. “The team in Juárez is an incredibly important part of the Shure family and with the addition of this new facility, the Shure story will continue here for many years to come.”

According to Shure, within the next decade, the new facility is expected to add up to 500 new associates.

“By expanding our presence in Juárez, we can enhance our global supply chain, ensuring that our products reach the hands of our valued customers swiftly and seamlessly,” says Schyvinck. “This additional manufacturing capability will allow us to meet the growing demands of our customers, no matter where they are located.”

Shure’s SM58 vocal microphone is manufactured in Juárez as well as its MICROFLEX and BETA lines, the 55SH, and many wireless products like the ULX-D, QLX-D, Axient Digital and more.

The post Super Bowl LVIII Relies on Shure For Clear Sound appeared first on Commercial Integrator.

]]>
For the first time in history, the biggest game in American Football descended upon Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium. This presented a massive new challenge: managing the Super Bowl’s immense production in Las Vegas’ already crowded wireless radio frequency (RF) environment. An expert production crew fearlessly tackled this challenge and delivered an outstanding entertainment experience to all attendees and a staggering 202.4 million broadcast viewers. To ensure the highest-quality audio for the entire Super Bowl, the production team trusted the Shure Axient Digital Wireless Microphone System.

Shure at the Super Bowl

“Axient Digital is the key to the Halftime Show,” shares Lead RF Engineer Cameron Stuckey. “We are using every feature that sets it apart to the fullest extent possible. And, at this point, it is hard to picture how I would design the wireless system without it. The coverage of Quadversity, combined with the reliability of Frequency Diversity, means the team and I can support every artistic decision across an entire football field with confidence in the harshest environment of the year.”

The RF team depended on 10 AD4Q Four-Channel Digital Wireless Receivers; an AD600 Axient Digital Spectrum Manager; and two AXT400 Axient Dual Channel Receivers. For another year, ATK also used Axient Digital AD4Q with Quadversity, a patented Shure technology, thus leveraging four simultaneous RF inputs to feed a single RF channel.

ATK Audiotek and Professional Wireless Systems (PWS) handled all wireless microphones and IEM systems for the pre-game entertainment, halftime entertainment, and referees. This is the 27th year PWS has served as ATK’s wireless partner for the Super Bowl.

The Audio Team at Super Bowl

The team included Broadcast Mixer Tom Holmes, Entertainment Front of House Mixer Alex Gussard, Entertainment Front of House Music Mixer Dave Natale, Monitor Mixer Tom Pesa, Lead RF Engineer Cameron Stuckey, and RF Techs Gary Trenda and Kasey Gchachu. The RF Team Lead for CP Communications was Loren Sherman. The production was also made possible by a crew of A2s.

Michael Mason, president of CP Communications, worked with his team to supply 45 channels of Axient Digital wireless and 14 channels of Shure PSM 1000 In-Ear Monitoring Systems. These were used for the pre-half and post-game studio shows as well as in game reports from the sidelines. Mason also made a point to note that Shure equipment was not only present for the big game; but for studio shows around Las Vegas during pre-week as well the Opening Night, Red Carpet and Honors shows.

Relying on Shure

“At CP Communications, we continue to rely heavily on the Shure Axient Digital series of microphones and Shure PSM to bring the highest-quality RF experience to our broadcast partners,” shares Mason.

“Shure at the Super Bowl has been a standard for entertainment for many years,” adds Tom Pesa, monitor mixer. “Shure began outperforming others years ago on this event, most notably in the wireless in-ear department. Just speaking in terms of the monitor team, there is no room for failure when moments such as the National Anthem or The Super Bowl Halftime Show are being viewed by record-setting audiences worldwide… The standard is Shure PSM 1000 for ears and, from a sound standpoint, nobody argues about how good they sound and how widely used they are.”

He continues, “Topping it all off, in monitor world, is the utilization of Wireless Workbench to constantly monitor wireless in-ears as well as all of the Shure microphones to gauge metering, RF status, and an array of other details since the actual RF equipment lives and is managed by the RF team away from monitor mix. All of these Shure products, seamlessly working together, is a massive part of the success of the audio team at the Super Bowl each year.”

Ensuring Flawless Performances

According to Shure, before kickoff, Reba McEntire trusted Shure Axient Digital for her live performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Here, McEntire used a frequency diversity handheld microphone transmitter outfitted with a nickel-plated KSM11 capsule. The accompanying drumline was also relying on Axient Digital transmitters.

“Shure KSM series capsules are perfect for every type of singer, and for me, the KSM9 and KSM11 are my go-to favorites for wireless vocals. Clear, crisp, and just the right amount of rejection without getting too ‘spitty’ sounding,” says Tom Holmes, broadcast mixer. “They [Shure] have a great range of mics suitable for every application.”

Andra Day’s rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” was performed on Shure Axient Digital Frequency Diverse (FD) wireless transmitters. Also, Cameron Heyward of the Pittsburgh Steelers accepted the Walter Payton Man of the Year award with an Axient Digital transmitter and KSM9 microphone capsule.

Every handheld transmitter on stage during the Halftime Show was Axient Digital (ADX2 / ADX2FD) and nearly every performer featured new, patented Shure microphone technology. For headsets, multiple artists used Axient AXT100 bodypacks. One of these artists was H.E.R., who used AXT100 for her headset and guitar. She also relied on a new Shure microphone technology for her onstage appearance.

A Long-Lasting Relationship

Referees also used two Axient Digital ADX1 bodypack transmitters working together in Frequency Diversity mode and paired with Shure’s premium subminiature TL47 model TwinPlex omnidirectional lavalier microphones. While omnidirectional lavaliers are typically used in controlled audio environments like theaters; TwinPlex was uniquely suited for this stadium application, given the lavalier microphone’s ultra-pristine, natural response and off-axis consistency, says Shure. Meanwhile, the CBS broadcast relied on ADX2 transmitters and Shure Mic Flag Extenders.

“I always enjoy collaborating with the artist teams who work diligently to find the right technology for talent,” adds Jenn Liang-Chaboud, manager of Entertainment Relations, at Shure. “It’s truly a mutually beneficial relationship. Their insights and feedback help make our products better.”

“From the sounds of the game to the entertainment and everything involved with the broadcast, the Super Bowl is a tour de force of audio production and wireless management,” states Nick Wood, senior director, Professional Audio Products, at Shure. “Shure is honored to be a part of it and grateful for the trust of the many amazing professionals who make it work each year.”

Shure supports the recently released Federal Communications Commission (FCC) order which expands opportunities for wireless microphone users. The company states that it has been active in FCC proceedings over the past few years, advocating on behalf of a wide array of customers who rely on wireless microphones.

Per a statement, wireless microphones continue to play an essential role in supporting productions for a number of facets of American life, culture and the economy. Beyond their traditional role in broadcasting and film production, wireless microphones support productions in a wide range of sectors, says Shure. These include news reporting, theater, music, sports, worship, civic events, transportation infrastructure and education.

To meet those customer needs, Shure asked for unlicensed Wireless Multi-Channel Audio Systems (WMAS) with higher power and the FCC agreed. The number of unlicensed wireless microphone users far exceeds the number of licensed users in the U.S. Thus, the full benefit of WMAS technology can only be realized if WMAS is available to unlicensed as well as licensed users.

Shure believes the need for 100mW unlicensed power is important as it:

 • Allows providers to minimize occupied spectrum while remaining equivalent in link performance to narrowband.
 • Decreases total Power Spectral Density (PSD) when the audio channel efficiency is met.
 • Aligns with recent WMAS updates within European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).

“This is a great decision by the FCC to provide many microphone users across America with added flexibility,” says Prakash Moorut, global head of spectrum and regulatory affairs at Shure. “Allowing unlicensed WMAS with power up to 100 mW — twice the power allowed for narrowband wireless microphones — is a big benefit for many individuals, organizations and small businesses.”

Shure has been developing products to allow end users flexibility to operate with quality audio in evolving landscapes. Tom Kundmann, VP of professional wireless at Shure, highlights the potential of wideband wireless in the UHF and other bands. “This technology will provide our customers with innovative product solutions,” he says. “Our team is actively working on improving spectral efficiency, scalability of audio services and simplifying deployment.”

Broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena for the second consecutive year, the 66th GRAMMY Awards abounded with jaw-dropping – and, occasionally, tear-jerking – performances, heartfelt speeches, and plenty of good-natured razzing from the night’s host, Trevor Noah. Year after year, these influential moments on the GRAMMY stage are made possible by an expert production team who trust Shure wireless technology to ensure extraordinary audio.

“Shure’s Axient Digital wireless technology delivers the high-quality sound and reliability that our team depends on for the GRAMMY Awards,” shares Michael Abbott, audio producer for the 66th GRAMMY Awards show. “Their wireless, along with the wide variety of Shure mic capsules, ensures the artists sound their best for the live broadcast.”

To flawlessly broadcast the audio of music’s biggest night worldwide to an enormous 16.9 million viewers, music veterans, including Abbott, relied on 28 channels of the Emmy Award-winning Shure Axient Digital Wireless Microphone System and eight channels of Axient Analog. Artists trusted Shure PSM 1000 in-ear monitoring systems during their performances, with a total of 190 Shure bodypacks used throughout the evening.

Shure’s Wireless Workbench and Axient Digital on the GRAMMY Stage

Frequency coordination serves an essential role in managing the staggering amount of wireless used throughout the GRAMMYs. Working in the already frequency-dense downtown Los Angeles, Stephen Vaughn, Soundtronic’s RF Coordinator, oversaw this pivotal function with Axient Digital and, for monitoring, Wireless Workbench.

“Shure’s Wireless Workbench and Axient Digital prove themselves year after year on the GRAMMY stage,” shares Vaughn. “Tools, like Wireless Workbench, give me reliable control and flexibility in LA’s challenging RF environment.”

“Shure is the gold standard when it comes to microphones. They have proven that in my 20-plus years in the industry,” shares Jamie Pollock, front of house (FOH) music engineer for the 66th GRAMMY Awards. “I use their products in the studio, on the road and at large-scale live events such as the GRAMMY Awards.”

In addition to Vaughn, Abbott, and Pollock, the night’s crew included Broadcast A1, Tom Holmes, and Music Mixers Eric Schilling and John Harris. Front of House was overseen by FOH Production Mixer and ATK Project Manager Jeff Peterson.

Top Artist Choose Shure

Many GRAMMY artists opted to perform with the most storied microphones from the 99-year history of Shure, including the SM58 and 565SD, as well as the company’s latest microphone innovation, the Shure KSM11.

Dua Lipa kicked off the festivities, performing a medley of her songs, including the new hit “Houdini,” while singing into a Shure KSM11 mic capsule. Later in the evening, Olivia Rodrigo would also use the KSM11 during the performance of her hit, “Vampire.”

Performing her GRAMMY record-of-the-year-winning song “Flowers,” Miley Cyrus clutched a Shure 565SD, which matched her silver-tassel dress. For her “Kill-Bill-inspired” performance, SZA also trusted a Shure microphone – the SM58.Celebrating the tail-end of their residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere, U2 relied on Shure Axient Analog wireless and SM58 mic capsules.

For the GRAMMY Awards’ “In Memoriam,” Jon Baptiste and Annie Lenox performed alongside legends Stevie Wonder and Fantasia, both of whom also trusted SM58 microphones.

Burna Boy took to the stage with a custom red Shure KSM8 and supplied a medley of his catalog alongside 21 Savage and Brandy. Throughout his fourth time hosting the event, Trevor Noah traveled around the stage and audience with a wireless Shure KSM9.

Finally, Billy Joel performed his first new single in 30 years, “Turn the Lights Back On,” to the GRAMMY Awards audience while singing into a Shure SM58.

Each of these performances, also including Billie Eilish, Tracey Chapman and Luke Combs, were made possible with Shure’s Axient Digital wireless technology, supplied by ATK and Soundtronics. ATK also provided IEMs as well as RF for all microphones.

Shure’s Commitment to Wireless Audio Innovation for Live Events & Media Production

“We understand the importance of wireless audio across all types of live events and media production, and appreciate the challenges involved in making the creative vision for a show come to life, or ensuring a presentation goes perfectly,” says Nick Wood, senior director, professional audio products, at Shure. “This has inspired us to continue innovating in core areas such as spectrum efficiency, wireless reliability, and user-centric design. Shure’s commitment to solving these challenges with our customers remains as strong as ever.”

“At Shure, we develop the innovative technology our customers need to take their creativity to the world’s largest stages. We’re grateful to have our gear deployed by the talented production team and artists who brought the 66th GRAMMY Awards to life,” shares Jenn Liang-Chaboud, manager of entertainment relations, at Shure.

]]>
Renkus-Heinz, the Foothill Ranch, Calif.-based loudspeaker manufacturer, announced its attendance at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE 2024) from Jan. 30 through Feb. 2 at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via venue in Barcelona, Spain.

Per the company, ISE 2024 attendees will have the opportunity to experience The Sound Solution from Renkus-Heinz in person at booth #7C700. Here, Renkus-Heinz will exhibit various systems for attendees. These include the ICLive X Series and Iconyx Compact Series from the flagship line of digitally steerable arrays, the UBX Series of passive column loudspeakers and the OmniBeam beam-steering software.

Members of the global Renkus-Heinz team, including Ralph Heinz, CTO; Brandon Heinz, product manager; Karl Brunvoll, VP of international sales; and many more will be on the show floor ready to answer any questions.

“ISE is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our global partners and customers each year,” says Brunvoll. “We’re looking forward to sharing our latest innovations, including OmniBeam, which is making its European debut after premiering at InfoComm last year.”

Renkus-Heinz at ISE 2024

“This year’s ISE show is particularly exciting for the Renkus-Heinz team with OmniBeam as our star — it really is a game-changer,” adds Michal Poplawski, export marketing director. “It revolutionizes our brand in terms of the kind of spaces we can address. We look forward to connecting with our customers about how we can meet their needs and help them take control of their sound.”

OmniBeam

With OmniBeam, Renkus-Heinz says it aims to change the perception that beam steering is knowledge and time-intensive — for niche applications only. The new algorithm is thus the culmination of decades of expertise in steerable technology, says the company. It replaces the previous “best-fit” algorithm to now deliver sound and coverage for 100% of venues with less time and knowledge required than ever before.

According to Renkus-Heinz, the end result is custom-tailored coverage precisely dialed into the exact geometry of each space. Thus, it allows for the most consistent front-to-back audio experience possible. Equally important, OmniBeam allows integrators — regardless of their level of expertise — to achieve great results with minimal effort, every time. The all-new algorithm thus generates ideal FIR coefficients for every unique venue, delivering faster, better and more consistent results than ever before with less time and knowledge needed.

The unique coverage programmed for each specific application is a suitable solution for music and live sound applications, says Renkus-Heinz. The uncertainty that comes with live performances requires a user-friendly, adaptable system. Here, OmniBeam can work flawlessly with any venue, any performance and any user, the company adds.

ICLive X Series

According to the manufacturer, as the intelligent evolution of the small-format line array, the ICLive X Series represents over 15 years of research and development of digital beam-steering technology. With the ICLive X Series, Renkus-Heinz says it created a compact, high-output and high-fidelity integrated system to meet the needs of nearly any live sound environment. Thus, it is suitable for both, portable and performance-based fixed installations.

The ICLive X is a scalable sound system: each mid-sized ICLX module can stand alone or be arrayed with up to 12 units to deliver precise and predictable coverage for any venue. The complementary ICLX-118S subwoofer adds powerful low-frequency energy to any ICLive X system. Additionally, a wide range of rigging and cabling accessories help simplify integration and deployment of the ICLive X Series. With flexibility, coverage and beam-steering technology, the ICLive X Series offers peak sound performance in a versatile, sleek design, says Renkus-Heinz.

UBX Series

The UBX Series brings Renkus-Heinz’s sound quality and coverage into the realm of passive arrays, per the company. With this, it creates more opportunities for AV contractors, consultants and sound system engineers to craft the ideal sound solution for their projects. Utilizing the same complex steering algorithms as Renkus-Heinz’s flagship ICONYX columns; the UBX Series’ new Passive UniBeam Technology delivers pristine sound and consistent coverage with minimal distortions or side lobe artifacts.

According to Renkus-Heinz, the UBX Series hardware addresses each transducer with specially designed all-pass filter networks, gain shading and frequency filtering in order to generate a downward steered asymmetrical vertical lobe with constant directivity — resulting in unmatched coverage and speech intelligibility from the front of the room to the back.

Available in three weather-resistant sizes — UBX4, UBX8 and UBX16 — all UBX Series models feature an ultra-sleek, unobtrusive cabinet that can be surface-mounted plumb to the wall to ensure minimal architectural intrusion in any space.

Iconyx Compact Series

The Iconyx Compact Series brings the performance and directivity synonymous with Renkus-Heinz to spaces where even the classic ICONYX arrays might be too large. With an ultra-narrow profile and exceptional directivity control, Iconyx Compact is well-suited to even the most architecturally sensitive houses of worship, transportation hubs and educational facilities requiring the outstanding performance and high intelligibility of beam-steered line arrays.
