Nescafé presented its new Dolce Gusto NEO coffee machine in Portugal, which was complimented by a spectacular 182,000 lumen immersive projection display. ADLC Audiovisuais selected nine Christie projectors to flood the auditorium of the Fundação Champalimaud in Lisbon with light and color for the official presentation.

At the launch event, produced by the UPPartner agency for Nescafé, approximately 300 guests had the opportunity to participate in an unforgettable experience that integrated artificial intelligence, human avatars, video projection, tasting areas and exclusive personalized animations.

The event placed a special emphasis on the brand’s strong commitment to sustainability, as both the machines and the capsules are made from recycled materials. In addition, all materials used by Nescafé in the presentation were able to be recycled after the event.

An impressive 74-feet by 27-feet wraparound screen lit by five Christie M 4K25 RGB pure laser projectors engaged the audience. Two additional Christie 3DLP projectors illuminated the stage floor to complete the immersive experience.

Various images related to the brand were projected, while a group of dancers from the company Ritmos Urbanos performed choreographies that interacted with the projection.

In addition, two Christie D13WU2-HS laser projectors, with 1DLP technology, WUXGA resolution and 13,500 lumens, projected on two large screens shaped like glasses that were located on the wall of the auditorium.

“These projections, with such an original format, caused a unique impact amongst the audience,” recalls José Cordeiro, director of ADLC Audiovisuais. “The client wanted to achieve a captivating effect on the audience, and boy, did we succeed,” he adds.

Cordeiro highlights the M 4K25 RGB projectors, “These 3DLP models have 4K UHD resolution, 25,000 lumens of brightness and pure laser RGB technology, producing brilliant images and spectacular colors. And all this with a super quiet operation and a lightweight and compact package. Christie has outdone itself with this machine.”

He adds, “All the projectors, which were different technologies, brightness and resolutions, performed excellently. The image was always impeccable. The equipment shone for its stability, robustness, and power throughout the event, without the slightest setback. And, most importantly, the client was delighted.”

José Cordeiro also highlights the role of projections in creating captivating experiences, “The presentation for Nescafé has been further proof of the impact that projections have to enrich corporate events with audiovisuals. They have a power and possibilities that other display technologies do not reach,” he concludes.

The 21:9 Frontier: Pixel Density & High Color Accuracy https://www.commercialintegrator.com/blogs/219-frontier-pixel-density-high-color-accuracy-hybrid-meeting/ https://www.commercialintegrator.com/blogs/219-frontier-pixel-density-high-color-accuracy-hybrid-meeting/#respond Thu, 22 Feb 2024 23:02:01 +0000 https://www.commercialintegrator.com/?p=128814 Bob Wudeck of BenQ paves the way toward a hybrid-meeting experience with rich pixel density and high color accuracy.

The post The 21:9 Frontier: Pixel Density & High Color Accuracy appeared first on Commercial Integrator.

]]>
When Nokia came out with its candy bar phone, it took the cell phone industry by storm. Nokia changed everything about the mobile phone and became the undisputed king of cell phones. That’s almost hard to believe in today’s age of the Apple iPhone. The iPhone completely changed how cell phones are used. In the conference room, a similar revolution is afoot. The new 21:9 hybrid-meeting-room projector is to hybrid-meeting rooms as the iPhone was to cell phones — transformative!

Hybrid meeting rooms are moving toward the 21:9 aspect ratio. When it comes to business projectors that will support this format, we don’t need another Nokia; we need an iPhone. In the past, meeting-room projectors didn’t need to deliver top-notch quality. Content was comprised primarily of simple text, bar graphs, spreadsheets and slideshows. If the blues and grays were a little off from the original or the presentation wasn’t super crisp, who cared? It didn’t inhibit understanding or productivity. It got the job done. It was the Nokia.

Today, meeting-room content is much richer, more complex — and active. Rather than simply presenting text or a slide deck, the screen displays feeds from videoconferencing, video, photographs, text, spreadsheets, chat boxes and more. Here, all of this content may be presented simultaneously. Everything is presented so the meeting feels more natural and equitable, no matter if you’re joining remotely or in person.

As the move toward 21:9 becomes the defining standard for hybrid meetings, it’s sparking other shifts as well. Just like the Nokia no longer cut it as a simple device that got one thing done, the meeting-room projector can’t simply fill the screen; it needs to enhance teamwork and collaboration with the high-quality reproduction and super high pixel density that meeting applications using the 21:9 format demand. Reproduction quality and accuracy of every piece of content onscreen is critical to that experience. This ensures that every piece of content is easily comprehended.

Pixel Density

Attendees need larger images for clarity and to help create the feeling of an in-person meeting, which the 21:9 format provides. However, the risk is that information on a large screen will be pixelated or unreadable with a standard business projector. This demands greater pixel density, which is the number of pixels per inch that yields the overall resolution.

How much pixel density is needed to support this format? It shouldn’t be surprising that it’s the pixel density we experience daily on our mobile devices and laptops. But replicating that richness is more than a WUXGA business projector is capable of within the 21:9 format. On a 130-inch screen, the pixel density of most WUXGA projectors is around 303 pixel per square inch (PPI2). To replicate the same high-res iPhone experience, a projector needs to reproduce content at four times that amount — 1,149 PPI2. At that level, all content — from small text of chat boxes to facial expressions — are clear and discernable to the entire room.

Color Accuracy

Whether projecting meeting attendees or color-specific marketing, creative, or scientific content, color accuracy is a critical detail. Color accuracy has mostly been a consideration for home cinema, theater, esports, and professional detail-oriented applications such as medicine and advertising. The best projectors and monitors in those markets have had a 92% or greater Rec.709 color coverage. Rec.709 color coverage expresses a device’s capability to reproduce color gamut. The more colors it can reproduce, the more accurate the content is depicted onscreen. With 92% Rec.709 color accuracy, participants’ skin tone and hair color appear clear and accurate, and other content is depicted as the creator intended.

HDR Support

For even better imaging, HDR is a must. HDR has typically been associated with cinematic reproduction. With HDR support, the projector is able to read and display content with HDR metadata, projecting video with accurate secondary colors and high pixel density that is as close as possible to the original.

Price Shift

Fortunately, this shift doesn’t come at an exorbitant cost. While extreme pixel density and accuracy were once confined to high-end projectors with steep $20,000 price tags, newer projectors have brought this level of quality within reach for businesses. Some of these are available for less than $4,500, which is a much more feasible price point for businesses needing to scale to multiple hybrid-meeting rooms.

As we navigate this new paradigm of hybrid meetings, it’s clear that the expectations for business projectors have changed dramatically. We no longer settle for mere screen-filling; we demand a level of clarity and richness that matches the complexity of the content being presented. The 21:9 format is not just a widescreen upgrade; it’s a symbol of a transformative era in collaborative technology, where the business projector is no longer just a tool but a catalyst for seamless and immersive communication. Just as the iPhone revolutionized cell phones, the 21:9 hybrid-meeting-room projector is redefining the way we meet, collaborate and innovate. It needs to look as good as possible.

Communities Gather Around Immersive Art Experiences https://www.commercialintegrator.com/blogs/communities-gather-around-immersive-art-experiences/ https://www.commercialintegrator.com/blogs/communities-gather-around-immersive-art-experiences/#respond Wed, 14 Feb 2024 19:15:42 +0000 https://www.commercialintegrator.com/?p=127701 With 50% of travelers seeking local art experiences, cities are hosting captivating shows to enthrall visitors and energize communities.

The post Communities Gather Around Immersive Art Experiences appeared first on Commercial Integrator.

]]>
While the Louvre in Paris draws global visitors to see the Mona Lisa and travelers flock to see Botticelli’s Birth of Venus in Florence, famous artworks are not the only artistic experiences that travelers and locals seek. Up-and-coming artists that embrace new mediums and have modern, visual stories to share are gaining popularity. According to a recent survey, nearly 50% of travelers want to experience new and local arts scenes when they explore new places.

To meet this demand, many cities are hosting immersive art experiences to draw in visitors and re-excite and engage local communities. Not only do these experiences draw attention from the new mediums and less familiar artists, but they are also typically more accessible than going to a traditional museum. Among all American museums, 60% require general admission fees. While the median admission fee across the country is $6, some fees can climb as high as $30 per adult guest. While there is incredibly apparent value in experiencing traditional museums, the truth is that the cost of attendance can be far too high for many families and individuals.

Community-led art experiences are an incredible opportunity for thousands of people to see art in a new way. These experiences are also frequently free to attend, making art more accessible for the masses. However, there’s another benefit to these kinds of experiences that goes beyond the individual.

U.S. cities are also experiencing continued strain as they rebound from the negative economic impacts of the pandemic. The WFH Research Group from Stanford University shared that New Yorkers are spending at least $12.4 billion less a year due to fewer days spent in the office and San Francisco is losing money as its population increasingly moves to neighboring counties. So, as cities struggle, city officials must prioritize reinvesting in local economies and bringing people back into the communities they’ve grown to love. With a demand for unique art experiences, immersive art installations are exactly the kind of events that can simultaneously meet consumer cravings and improve local economies.

From Coast to Coast, Immersive Art Reinvigorates City Life

In Binghamton, New York, the LUMA Projection Arts Festival brings 40,000 to 50,000 people annually to witness the transformation of local buildings into incredible works of art. Through projection mapping, artists and showrunners convert downtown’s buildings into expansive canvasses for artists to display their latest designs.

AV technology helps integrate art, visual storytelling, and music into a single immersive experience that visitors can enjoy. From powerful laser projectors and lenses to easy-to-use content management software, technology is bringing new and exciting experiences to large audiences. Since 2015, the festival has brought artists, engineers, local volunteers and business owners, and designers together to create a strong bond within the city.

Across the country in San Francisco, Let’s Glow SF celebrated its third annual exhibition this year. In 2022 alone, the immersive art show generated $3 million in economic impact in the downtown area over its run of 10 days. An array of 13 local and international artists participated in the event, lighting up their artworks across downtown facades from the Ferry Building to the Salesforce Tower and more. Hosted by the Downtown SF Partnership and organized by A3 Visual, the event continues to run as part of a citywide effort to re-activate downtown’s programming as a form of placemaking across the city.

Other events like Canal Convergence in Scottsdale and the Napa Lighted Arts Festival all come together with one common goal – to give their communities a chance to experience beautiful artwork while boosting city life.

The Future of Community Engagement Is Bright

The rise in immersive art makes exploring artistic expression more accessible than ever before. When our most creative minds get the opportunity to work with emerging technology, it changes the way we make art and tell stories. Local, immersive art experiences not only usher in more avenues for artists to bring their art to life, but they also expand the horizons of viewing audiences. While traditional museums serve important purposes and push their own boundaries, outdoor art experiences truly know no bounds. Artists can now embrace larger canvasses and also look at ways to engage audiences in new ways by incorporating sound and interactivity. Technology is transforming how people view and experience art and is taking the audience experience to new heights all over the world.

Visitors to the BBC Earth Experience in Melbourne are being transported on an incredible journey through the natural world. The BBC Earth Experience is an immersive exhibition narrated by the Sir David Attenborough which has recently opened at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Australia.

Produced in collaboration with Moon Eye Productions, Live Nation, BBC Studio and Tinker Imagineers, the multi-room digital art experience guides visitors through Earth’s diverse ecosystems across seven continents.

TDC Selects BeeBlade Media Server Technology from HIVE

What sets Melbourne’s BBC Earth Experience apart is the playback technology used for this installation. Australian video technology and production supplier, TDC, harnessed the innovative BeeBlade media server from HIVE to power the entire project.

Michael Hassett, managing director, TDC explains, “The main difference is that we’re inserting the HIVE players in the projectors and the great thing about that is it saves a lot of space and power. There’s no cable distribution system, no control room, just the media player in the projectors in the venue.”

The entire exhibit is equipped with 70 Panasonic projectors with 55 creating the central 360-degree high resolution immersive panorama comprising over 127 million pixels. HIVE software enables the precise positioning and timing of every single one of them.

“Having accepted our proposal for using HIVE media servers, Moon Eye Productions brought us in to provide the media engines for this project,” explains Hassett. “We took a great deal of responsibility for that delivery, especially because the HIVE product was not well known to them, given that different media solutions had been used in London.”

Hassett’s discovery of HIVE, initially from industry whispers and further impressed by their involvement in London’s Frameless project, has led to a synergy and understanding of the BeeBlade solution. The direct integration with projectors eliminates the need for extensive cabling, reduces both energy usage and project budgets and ushers in an era of eco-conscious technology.

“The SDM technology was something that really interested me,” he says. “I had heard of some development of this, and then when I learned that Panasonic had integrated an SDM slot into some of their projector models – this led me back to looking at HIVE as the product for this BBC Earth Experience project.

Related: TDC Celebrates Summer at Sydney Festival in Australia

The price point is also very favorable,” Hassett continues, “and while the HIVE products might not have the ‘bells and whistles’ offered by other solutions – for this and other projects, we don’t always need them. It sometimes just requires good, reliable, high resolution playback.”

The HIVE products were sold to Moon Eye Productions and then installed directly into the projectors at Panasonic Europe’s facility in Wiesbaden, Germany. From there, they were delivered to Melbourne for installation, which was undertaken by Faber Audiovisuals.

A New Approach to Digital Storytelling

This is the latest digital art installation for TDC following the technical design and engineering of projects for the Australian Museum, Australian National Maritime Museum and the upcoming Dream Circus at Luna Park, Sydney.

“The fusion of technologies at Melbourne’s BBC Earth Experience are harbingers of a new, greener, and transformative approach to digital storytelling,” adds Hassett. “It is an evolutionary leap, saving time, money and the planet.”

Projectors empower architects to showcase designs in detail and businesses to grab attention at trade shows. In live theaters and performances, projectors elevate visual effects, while libraries and museums use them for wide-format document displays and interactive exhibits. Going beyond, in upscale restaurants and interior design studios, these displays create more immersive and engaging environments.

As the business landscape continually evolves, seamless communication and collaboration are paramount. Sony’s firmware update improves compatibility with today’s leading video collaboration platforms, which are designed to elevate meetings and presentations. With 21:9 aspect ratio support, users can now enjoy a wide, panoramic view of content, enhancing videoconferences and presentations for participants.

This firmware update expands upon Sony’s key projection differentiators, including Reality Creation, which enhances the overall sharpness, resolution and quality of pictures, graphs, or text, and Ambiance which measures the room’s brightness using an ambient light sensor and optimally calibrates additional visual settings. Together, these technologies, combined with 21:9 aspect ratio, create even more realistic and immersive visual experiences that unlock new levels of collaboration.

21:9 Aspect Ratio Firmware Update Information

“This firmware update is a testament to our commitment to staying at the forefront of visual innovation and increase the longevity and power of our existing portfolio,” says Terrence Boyd, senior business manager, Sony Electronics. “We’re excited to offer our customers a wider dimension to collaborative platform viewing experiences, blending the communication barriers between on-site, hybrid and remote event participants.”

The firmware update bringing 21:9 aspect ratio support is available now for the Mid-Range VPL-FHZ85 and VPL-FHZ80 interchangeable lens projectors and is planned to be available for the Ultra-Compact VPL-PHZ61 and VPL-PHZ51 fixed-lens projectors at the end of December 2023.

Draper, Inc. officially unveiled the tenth building at its manufacturing campus in Spiceland, Ind., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring company leadership. Per the company, the 100,000-square-foot building brings the amount of total space to 500,000 square feet.

“This building will add seven much-needed loading docks, and also storage and production space. It will enable us to add a new automated powder coating line,” says Chris Broome, who is the fifth generation of the family to serve as Draper president during its 121-year history.

Boome adds, “But more important than our buildings are our people. We are proud that in our 121-year history, Draper has laid off zero employees. Draper currently has 723 employees, with a total of 7,680 years of service. One hundred sixty-seven of our employees have passed the 20-year milestone. Twelve have been here for more than 40 years.”

A Successful Growth Trajectory

Founded in 1902 as a manufacturer of window shades for schools, Draper now makes motorized shading systems for the commercial and residential markets. It also manufactures AV projection screens and lifts; custom AV mounts and structures; and custom solar control solutions. Per the company, it is also the largest architectural gym equipment manufacturer in North America.

The new building was added after several years of steady growth, says Draper. Along with the building, the company expects even more growth with its entry as a major player in the residential-shading market.

“We see a lot of good growth opportunities. And this building is going to allow us to continue to take care of and meet the needs of our customers,” says Broome. “Also, from a supply standpoint, we’ll be able to keep a better inventory of fabrics and other components. [This] will allow us to be more responsive to our customers’ needs.”

Broome expects the opening of Building 10 will create 25 to 30 new jobs in the short term.
