Bogen Communications LLC, provider of commercial audio and voice communications technology, announced a growing lineup of technology partners. These include Early Warning Labs, IPVideo, Lightspeed Technologies, Omnilert, Raptor Technologies and TeachLogic. Bogen Communications’ latest technology partnerships enhance and expand functionality for its Nyquist E7000 and Nyquist C4000 systems, the IP-based paging and intercom solutions.

Early Warning Labs (EWL)

Early Warning Labs, is a licensed partner of the U.S. Geological Survey and and specializes in earthquake early warning technology. EWL offers innovative solutions that integrate with Nyquist (and prior Bogen systems) that enable facilities to automate audible and visual notifications as well as implement other crucial safety measures.

According to a statement, these technologies are designed with the intent to help reduce injuries and mitigate other losses during an earthquake by providing advanced warnings before the shaking arrives. This allows individuals to take proactive safety measures before the shaking starts, such as seeking shelter and initiating other pre-defined safety action, aiming to significantly reduce the risk of injuries and mitigate potential damages.

IPVideo

The HALO Smart Sensor, an IPVideo product from Motorola Solutions, is an IoT smart sensor for vaping and THC detection, says Bogen. As a multifunctional device, HALO provides comprehensive health, safety and vaping awareness while protecting the privacy of individuals as the device has no cameras and it does not record conversations.

A single HALO device offers a variety of sensors and event-based triggers. These include health monitoring; indoor air quality monitoring; vape and THC detection; gunshot detection; emergency keyword alerts; audible alerts; emergency escape and alert lighting; motion detection; chemical alerts; VOC alerts; tamper alerts, and temperature and humidity alerts.

Per a statement, there are additional add-on options for panic button alerts and people counting. Alert notifications from the HALO system can now be distributed via Bogen Communications’ Nyquist system to increase the protection of students and faculty in education, or any staff member or guest in a commercial space.

Lightspeed Technologies

Nyquist interfaces with the Lightspeed Cascadia Networked Instructional Audio platform to enable key functionality, including a mobile solution for the teacher to initiate multiple levels of alerts in the classroom directly from the pendant microphone. The teacher can initiate a help request, emergency alert or check-in which are then distributed through the Nyquist system. Cascadia interfaces with a digital mute function, ensuring important and even emergency school-wide messages broadcast through the Nyquist system are never missed, the company states.

Omnilert

According to Bogen, the Omnilert integration offers a powerful solution to help enhance campus safety by detecting potential gun threats and activating responses. Omnilert Gun Detect is an AI-powered visual gun detection system that monitors existing security cameras 24×7 for gun threats. Once confirmed, automated emergency responses are activated, including locking doors, alarm activation, pre-recorded announcements, and escalation to first responders within critical seconds of an incident, significantly improving overall security measures.

Raptor Technologies

Raptor Alert expedites and streamlines emergency response by allowing users to initiate an alert directly to 911 and provide critical information to first responders, law enforcement, and campus personnel. In partnership with Bogen, an alert initiated through Raptor Alert can automate and expedite public address announcements and security alerts that can be distributed with the Nyquist system for small incidents and school-wide emergencies.

TeachLogic

The Nyquist system can interface with multiple TeachLogic instructional audio systems to streamline paging and security alert functions between the systems. The Nyquist system can recognize and help respond to an emergency alert from any of the TeachLogic Ovation, Maxim, Spectrum and Matrix systems. The teacher can activate the alert wirelessly from their pendant microphone, and the alert is passed from the amplifier to the Nyquist system. Additionally, TeachLogic systems recognize an incoming page from the Nyquist system to mute all audio sources in the room.

“Bogen Communications is thrilled to strengthen our technology partnerships with Early Warning Labs, IPVideo, Lightspeed, Omnilert, Raptor Technologies and TeachLogic. Together, we can provide a simple and unified solution to expedite various types of emergency communications,” says Randall Lee, VP of marketing and product management at Bogen Communications. “We are committed to providing valuable third-party integrations for long-term and continual return on investment for Bogen Communications’ commercial audio solutions. We are dedicated to helping our customers address safety and security challenges with reliable and feature-rich solutions that support their constantly evolving landscape.”

The Nyquist System

Bogen Communications’ Nyquist system is a software-centric, IP-based paging and intercom solution that leverages the latest software technologies and third-party integrations. Per the company, Nyquist features a powerful, state-of-the-art system controller with an easy-to-use web-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) accessible from any PC, tablet or mobile device. The Nyquist system integrates with LAN, WAN and legacy speaker cabling. With this, it can support existing building infrastructure and can be scaled to support a virtually unlimited number of audio sources, endpoints and zones. Users can easily add new features and capabilities as per the changing needs, evolving technologies or software updates.

VuWall, provider of videowall control systems and unified visualization solutions, provided the SIMOS control center for security and mobility in Stuttgart, Germany with a new videowall control system. The VuWall system, installed by Mevis.tv and specified by consultant Erben Engineering GmbH, comprises 12 VuScape controllers, two VuStream E240 encoders and one VuWall Application Server. Additionally, according to the company, the TRx centralized videowall management platform manages all of the components in the system.

“There are many parts and pieces to deploying a videowall system for a project of this scale and complexity,” says Hans-Joachim Spies, founder and managing director at Mevis.tv. “As an integrator, it’s paramount that everything works together seamlessly. VuWall’s ecosystem exceeded our high standards not only for performance, but also for scalability, flexibility and interoperability. It dramatically reduced our integration time and eliminated any concern about compatibility between the various products within the AV and IP infrastructure. It’s an exceptional system for an exceptional project.”

The Installation

SIMOS houses two independent control centers. This consists of the integrated control center (ILS) and the integrated traffic control center (IVLZ). The ILS provides around-the-clock operation and support for incoming emergency calls for the fire brigade and German Red Cross. Meanwhile, IVLZ is responsible for monitoring all of the city’s traffic and tunnel surveillance cameras. It also monitors electronic traffic display systems on the main roads, which are overseen by four dispatchers from the office for public order, civil engineering office, the Stuttgart tram and the police.

For this project, Mevis.tv installed two videowalls for each of the control centers. The ILS features a videowall comprised of 48 Barco UniSee 55-inch LCD displays. On the other hand, the IVLZ control room videowall features 14 Barco UniSee 55-inch displays. In addition, there are eight displays installed across two crisis meeting rooms that need access to the same sources. Although all these rooms are distinct, the VuWall system provided the organizations with a single, IP-based videowall processing and management system that connects them with a virtual infrastructure.

Ensuring High-Quality Performance

VuWall’s  videowall processor and VuStream encoders ensure high-quality video stream distribution across the network with low latency. It also ensures high performance for up to 4:4:4 of 4K video streams. The Application Server also provides quick access to websites, dashboards and applications from a single, centralized source. It achieves this with the necessary security and without overburdening the network. All these appliances are managed by the TRx centralized videowall management platform. As a result, it enables SIMOS operators to easily control and distribute visual information and data to any display or videowall on the network, says VuWall.

According to VuWall, the TRx is unique in combining AV-over-IP distribution and advanced multi-video wall and KVM management. Its engineering also allows it to be robust enough for multi-room distribution projects such as SIMOS.

The centralized platform ensures intuitive configuration, management and distribution of virtually any source type to any display without any programming. Its simple drag-and-drop capability also saves time for integrators and operators alike. Mevis.tv also benefitted from TRx’s API, which integrates with the organization’s Crestron building control system.

“We are so proud to see that SIMOS is leveraging the modularity, ease of use and reliability we’ve built into our ecosystem, fulfilling their objectives with this incredible project,” says Eric Hénique, EVP of international sales at VuWall. “Operators can see exactly what they need when they need it on the display of their choosing while providing the redundancy and low latency that control rooms demand. Plus, it all works seamlessly within their existing workflow for the most effective distribution of visual information.”

Axis Adds Deep Learning Capabilities to Video Cameras https://www.commercialintegrator.com/security/surveillance/axis-deep-learning-capabilities-video-cameras/ https://www.commercialintegrator.com/security/surveillance/axis-deep-learning-capabilities-video-cameras/#respond Wed, 15 Nov 2023 22:09:13 +0000 https://www.commercialintegrator.com/?p=126072 Axis will be rolling out several updates to its Objects Analytics solution that include a virtual tripwire feature as well as an occupancy measurement feature.

The post Axis Adds Deep Learning Capabilities to Video Cameras appeared first on Commercial Integrator.

]]>
Ahead of ISC East, Axis Communications unveiled a slew of new additions to its video surveillance portfolio. This includes the AXIS P37 Panoramic Camera Series, AXIS Q18 Bullet Camera Series and AXIS P3268-SLVE Dome Camera, all of which will come equipped with a deep learning processing unit (DLPU).

All these technologies, according to Axis, will be on display at ISC East 2023 at the Javits Center in New York City from November 14-16, 2023. For those who will be unable to attend the show, however, Axis has stated that these new solutions can be demoed at any one of its Axis Experience Centers (AEC), including the New York City AEC, 12 East 49th Street, Floor 42.

Axis Panoramic Camera Series

Starting off with the AXIS P37 Panoramic Camera Series, compact cameras are capable of being recessed mounted or mounted in ceilings with up to 4*4K resolution on recordings. The cameras also come with tamper-resistant casing and integrated IP66-/IP67-rated weather shield, meaning their protected against most outdoor weather such as rain and snow.

Axis Bullet Cameras

Axis’s bullet cameras, such as the AXIS Q1805-LE and AXIS Q1806-LE, offer image quality in 2 MP and 4 MP respectively. According to Axis, the cameras can show sharp and clear footage in complete darkness up to 100 m (328 ft) while also being able to deliver clear detail and colors in less-than-ideal lighting conditions. They can also handle temperatures from -40 °C to 60 °C (-40 °F to 140 °F).

Dome Cameras

The AXIS P3268-SLVE Dome Camera comes enclosed in a marine-grade, stainless steel casing, and is DNV-certified, meaning it is able to stand up to the corrosive effects of seawater and cleaning chemicals making it more ideal for harsh environments. It’s also certified by NSF/ANSI to Standard 169 (Special Purpose Food Equipment and Devices) for use in food processing facilities.

Axis Deep Learning Processing Unit (DLPU)

A running theme throughout these products however is that they’re all built on ARTPEC-8 and feature a deep learning processing unit (DLPU) which Axis states eliminates the need for expensive servers and allows for a faster and more scalable system when installing.

These cameras are also able to run metadata and AXIS Object Analytics streams on multiple channels to detect and classify people and vehicles, for instance, entering a user-defined area.

Axis Video Recorders

Additionally, Axis has announced two video recorders that can be used in single-site and multi-site systems, as well as for expanding storage and network in existing systems.

The AXIS S3008 Mk II Recorder comes with an integrated PoE switch for up to 8 PoE Class 3 devices and provides reliable recording thanks to its surveillance-grade hard drive. It also offers gigabit uplink for video recordings in ultra-high definition.

The AXIS S3016 Recorder meanwhile offers an integrated PoE switch for up to 16 devices and a maximum of PoE class 4 per port while providing a gigabit switch for connecting network devices and a 2.5 gigabit uplink for video recordings in ultra-high definition.

Axis has also announced it will be updating its Objects Analytics solution alongside the release of its deep-learning video cameras. The updates include a new Crossline feature that counts objects that cross a virtual tripwire in a defined direction and Occupancy feature that allows the user to define an area to count selected objects, providing an estimate of occupancy levels in real-time.

Axis at ISC East

Each of these new solutions will be demoed, along with more of Axis’ latest products, at ISC East, booth #711. Both the AXIS Panoramic Camera series and Objects Analytics updates will be available in November 2023 while the bullet cameras, dome camera and recorders will all be available in December 2023.

The news of these deep learning and analytics offerings come following a conversation CE Pro, CI’s sister site, had with Axis earlier this year discussing the potential for AI and other new technology in residential and commercial video surveillance solutions.

Another version of this article originally appeared on our sister-site CEPro on November 15, 2023. It has since been updated for Commercial Integrator’s audience.

DHS Investigating Cyberattack on Johnson Controls https://www.commercialintegrator.com/news/dhs-investigating-cyberattack-at-johnson-controls/ https://www.commercialintegrator.com/news/dhs-investigating-cyberattack-at-johnson-controls/#respond Fri, 29 Sep 2023 16:15:02 +0000 https://www.commercialintegrator.com/?p=124436 CNN reports that the Department of Homeland Security is investigating if sensitive security information was compromised during a cyberattack on Johnson Controls.

The post DHS Investigating Cyberattack on Johnson Controls appeared first on Commercial Integrator.

]]>
Editor’s note: This article was originally published on September 29, 2023 and has been updated on October 13, 2023 with a statement by Johnson Controls.

Alarm and building automation system giant Johnson Controls might have “compromised sensitive physical security information such as DHS floor plans,” according to a CNN report that says the government contractor was the victim of a recent cybersecurity attack.

The senior department of Homeland Security officials “are working to determine” the extent of the breach, according to internal DHS correspondence reviewed by CNN reporters Priscilla Alvarez and Sean Lyngaas.

Johnson Controls “holds classified/sensitive contracts for DHS that depict the physical security of many DHS facilities,” the internal memo says, per the CNN report.

The looming potential government shutdown — which could start Sunday morning if Congress can’t strike a last-minute deal — makes it “especially time sensitive” to determine which DHS offices might be affected by the attack, the memo clarifies.

“Until further notice, we should assume that [the contractor] stores DHS floor plans and security information tied to contracts on their servers,” the memo adds, according to the CNN report, which adds that it is “unclear if the cybercriminal hackers accessed that information.”

“We do not currently know the full extent of the impact on DHS systems or facilities,” the internal DHS memo says, according to the CNN report.

The Biden administration has tried to tighten cybersecurity for government contractors by compelling them to meet a minimum set of security standards, the CNN report says. It’s unclear if the hackers in the Johnson Controls case demanded a ransom to return the information to them, according to the report.

Inside the Johnson Controls Cyberattack

The cyberattack hit Johnson Controls in the last week, causing disruptions to internal IT systems and knocking some of the company’s subsidiary websites offline, CNN reports. It’s “expected to continue to cause disruptions to some of Johnson Controls’ business operations,” according to a company filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday.

Johnson Controls has hired “external cybersecurity experts” to recover from the “cybersecurity incident,” and is in touch with its insurers, the SEC filing says, according to the CNN report. Company spokesman Trent Perrotto declined to comment when CNN asked what DHS data the company stores and whether sensitive physical security information was compromised in the cyberattack. Perrotto referred CNN to the company’s SEC filing.

Efforts to reach Johnson Controls officials for more information about the cyberattack were unsuccessful. CNN could not independently confirm which cybercriminal group was responsible for the breach of Johnson Controls.

DHS officials are also checking to see whether any personally identifiable information of DHS officials was swept up in the hack, according to the internal correspondence reviewed by CNN.

A Johnson Controls spokesperson has since issued the following statement: “We have experienced disruptions in portions of our internal information technology infrastructure and applications resulting from a cybersecurity incident. Promptly after detecting the issue we began an investigation with assistance from leading external cybersecurity experts and are also coordinating with our insurers. We continue to assess what information was impacted and are executing our incident management and protection plan, including implementing remediation measures to mitigate the impact of the incident, and will continue taking additional steps as appropriate. To date, many of our applications are largely unaffected and remain operational. To the extent possible, and in line with our business continuity plans, we implemented workarounds for certain operations to mitigate disruptions and continue servicing our customers. However, the incident has caused, and is expected to continue to cause, disruption to parts of our business operations. We are assessing whether the incident will impact our ability to timely release our fourth quarter and full fiscal year results, as well as the impact to our financial results.”
