Eagle Brook Church Multisite Services Soar High Thanks to Alpha Video

Published: 2015-07-21

Eagle Brook Church is one of the fastest growing churches in the country. The main broadcast campus is located in Lino Lakes, Minn., and in late 2012, the church started construction on its sixth facility, in Woodbury, Minn.

Essential to the success of Eagle Brook’s multisite operations and congregation experience is employing the latest audio, video, lighting and broadcast technology to make every worship service at each location a dynamic and engaging event.

This includes broadcasting the senior pastor’s message from the Lino Lakes campus to the other locations. As planning for 1,500-seat auditorium at the Woodbury location started, the Eagle Brook production staff turned to Edina, Minn.-based Alpha Video to design and deploy the video systems for the new facility.

Control Room Runs the Show

Because the worship experiences at Eagle Brook are like television broadcasts, the integration firm was tasked with creating and outfitting an HD video control room, explains Alpha Video’s Jerry Gale.

FEATURED REPORT

“Eagle Brook has strong standards for all video systems since the systems need to be remote controllable from the master control room at the Lino Lakes campus,” Gale says.

Central to the control room operations are a Harris Platinum router, Ross Video Carbonite switcher and a Grass Valley K2 media server. Five Hitachi Z-HD5000s were selected as the studio camera system.

A Clear-Com Matrix intercom system is integral to the successful operation of the church’s technology and allows the church’s production staff to communicate with each other internally at the new facility as well as from other Eagle Brook sites.

Praiseworthy Projection Setup

Four Digital Projection Titan 1080p Quad 2000 projectors are installed in the auditorium, which has four projection surfaces from Draper and Stewart Filmscreen: two side screens used for image magnification; a high center screen for music reinforcement; and a fourth screen mounted on an ETC Prodigy P800 hoist and lowered down from the ceiling to the stage for the delivery of “the message.”

During that time, the teaching pastor appears head to toe on the center screen with close-up images shown on the side screens. Alpha Video also fabricated a lobby video wall, a 3 x 3 configuration using nine Planar 46-inch, thin-bezel MX46 modules, which displays a live feed during the services and announcements at other times.

The church welcomed more than 5,000 attendees during opening weekend last fall, which far exceeded expectations, says Gale. “The technology worked with no problems the entire weekend.”
