Belden FiberExpress (FX) Fusion Splice-On Connector Streamlines Fiber Termination

Published: 2017-04-11

The signal transmission product manufacturer Belden has announced its FiberExpress (FX) Fusion Splice-On Connector, which the company says provides an alternative and higher performing solution than mechanical slice options.

The St. Louis, Mo.-based company explains the connector aligns fibers through an automated process with a maximum insertion loss of 0.20dB, compared to 0.50 (OM4) with mechanical processes.

Belden emphasizes that not only is the performance of cables improved through the use of its FiberExpress Fusion Splice-On Connector, but installation and accuracy are also improved as the connector eliminates crimping, polishing and adhesives that are typically required for cable termination.

Further streamlining cable splicing options, the FiberExpress (FX) Fusion Splice-On Connector also minimizes the need for splicing accessories such as splice enclosures and splice trays.

Belden says the fiber ferrule is ready for termination, with pre-cleaved and pre-cleaned fiber stubs. The connector also allows for exact channel lengths to be run to eliminate cable shorts and excess slack.

The FiberExpress Fusion Splice-On Connector is also compatible with nearly all fusion splicers, and Belden notes integrators can use the product for indoor and outdoor applications through its ANSI/TIA-568-D3 and GR-326/1081 compliance. Belden says LC 900um connectors are available in OM1, OM3/4, OM4, OS and OS2 APC versions.

Belden plans to add to the product line in the next year with SC 900um connectors, LS/SC jacketed connectors and FX Fusion splicers.
