The immersive 3D exhibition “Pure Land: Inside the Mogao Grottoes at Dunhuang,” opened at the Smithsonian Institution’s Arthur M. Sackler Gallery in Washington, D.C. in Dec. 2012. It gave visitors a 3D view of the inside of the Mogao Caves, near the city of Dunhuang in Western China, which were carved into cliffs in the fourth century and house the world’s oldest collection of Buddhist murals and statues.
