Most of the time, when Delaware North is looking to upgrade one of its facilities, it’s with an eye toward improving an experience for sports fans, concertgoers, gamblers and those embarking on a weekend or extended getaway.

After all, the company owns and operates countless venues in sports, gaming, hospitality, retail, leisure and more.

So when Delaware North started to design its new headquarters in Buffalo, N.Y., it wanted to reflect its unrivaled attractions within the space.

The company was inspired by the work it had seen at Boston’s TD Garden, a venue that houses the company’s Boston Bruins as well as the Boston Celtics and many concerts, circuses and other events.

Delaware North decided to install NanoLumens‘ NanoWrap solution in the main reception area of its new corporate headquarters “to engage employees and visitors with high-tech graphics and messaging from the minute they walked through the door,” according to company officials.

“We felt that light boxes didn’t show the high-tech, innovative presentation that we desired,” said Kerry Hassen, senior manager of brand and social strategy at Delaware North. The main reception area is the first impression people get when they walk in.”

NanoLumens northeast director of sales Dana Michaelis said the Delaware North team “made it clear that they wanted a technology solution that could be fully integrated into the design of the reception area.” NanoLumens calls this approach “tech-orating,” says Michaelis.

The 74-foot-by-2-foot NanoWrap solution wraps around a curved wall directly in the middle of the reception area, offering Delaware North a messaging platform that gets updated three times per day.

The NanoWrap at Delaware North was crafted in an elliptical and boasts a 3.9MM pixel pitch.

Before visitors and new employees are ever greeted, they see their names in lights on the NanoWrap display as they step off the elevator. Additionally, whenever a Buffalo sports team is playing, Delaware North displays the score of the game so employees can cheer on their home teams while in the office.

Although located on the building’s 10th floor, the NanoWrap solution is so bright that pedestrians walking outside can see it, said Hassen. The front of the building is a curved glass atrium that faces the street corner in Buffalo’s entertainment district, she said.

“The ability to have the display show through the glass in the evening and throughout the weekend, when there is a high volume of people on the street, was a key factor when selecting the technology,” said Hassen.

Since the front of the building is glass, LED technology was the only choice for the job, said Michaelis.

“The Delaware North atrium sky lobby has floor-to-ceiling glass windows, so a lot of natural light shines through daily,” he said. “The brightness of the display contrasts with the brightness of the sun; in the evening, it shines out of the 10th floor.”
