Belden Inc., well known for its signal transmission solutions, has acquired the assets of the Gepco brand from General Cable.

The acquisition of Gepco, whose fiber-optic signal transmission solutions are embedded in the broadcast market, is clearly aimed at bolstering Belden Broadcast AV.

In its press release, Belden writes that it has made significant advances in broadcast cabling in 2016 by improving the performance of its most popular HD-SDI coax products, such as 1694A and 1855A, from 4.5GHz to 6GHz. It recently introduced 4794R, the first single-link 12GHz coax cable, which will be available by the end of Q3. In addition to new Broadcast products, Belden is also innovating in the Commercial A/V space.

Belden already had a lot of insight into the Gepco brand having Gepco General Cable hired operations manager Brad Pope earlier in 2016 as product engineering manager for Belden Broadcast AV.

“We will be launching the industry’s most advanced 4K HDBaseT cabling and connectivity solution later this year,” says Mike Saber, director of marketing for Belden Broadcast AV in the press release. “On top of that, the acquisition of the Gepco brand provides us with new technologies that expand our new product pipeline.”
