TASCAM recently introduced its CD-400U media player, which combines a slot-loading CD player, AM/FM tuner, stereo SD recorder, and Bluetooth wireless and USB connectivity. The CD-400U “offers audio playback in real time or from reliable fixed media,” according to the company press release.

The media player can also record from CD or the AM/FM source to CD or to USB media.

The CD-400U “provides professional-class XLR balanced outputs, RCA unbalanced main outputs, and a second set of RCA unbalanced outputs dedicated to the AM/FM source,” according to the TASCAM press release.

A 1/8-inch auxiliary input admits audio from a variety of external sources, combining with the Bluetooth wireless input to accept sources such as smartphones, tablets and more. A ¼-inch stereo headphone output enables silent monitoring and confirmation of operation.

Once configured, a Panel Lock function can disable the panel buttons to avoid unauthorized operation or programming. A Power on Play function automatically starts playback upon power-up.

A standard RS-232C terminal enables external remote control. An optional IF-E100 Ethernet card will provide IP control over Ethernet in a future release. A two-line backlit LCD displays the settings for programming and operation.

TASCAM has concentrated all of these media sources, recording features and professional connectivity in a 1U rack design with a black facade. Its combination of form, features and operation makes the CD-400U a solid choice for institutions, music venues, retail, schools, restaurants and more.

Pro speakers, in-ceiling loudspeakers, and live sound products all had an impressive presence at InfoComm 2017—and we expect to see some equally impressive new audio products at ISE 2018 next month in Amsterdam.

The pro speakers market seems to be on the rise, according to an important study that came out post-InfoComm. According to FutureSource, pro speaker revenues will increase from their current value of $2.6 billion to $3.6 billion by 2021.

But it’s not about the products. The value that integration firms and consultants bring to customers is in understanding their unique organization challenges and designing systems that solve them.
