Focusrite Introduces Thunderbolt-Enabled Clarett Range of Interfaces

Published: 2015-01-23

The biggest music and pro audio event happens each January. The 2015 NAMM Show is presented by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), and among the many new products to be announced at this year’s event is Focusrite‘s new Clarett line of Thunderbolt interfaces.

According to the popular British audio company, the new range of products combine its latest preamp designs with the fast connectivity afforded through the Thunderbolt protocol.

Focusrite says that through the use of the Thunderbolt platform the interfaces provide latency times less than 1ms, as well as “crystal clear” 24-bit/192kHz conversion capabilities.

A central part of the four new interface models, Focusrite points out, is the new mic preamps that are incorporated into the products that are designed to replicate the impedance and transformer resonance of the original ISAs, which Focusrite says results in the signature sound that made the company famous.

The line includes the Clarett 2 Pre (10 in/4 out), the Clarett 4 Pre (18 in/8 out), the Clarett 8 (18 in/20 out), and the Clarett Pre X 26 in/28 out).

Focusrite says the PreX is a 2U product that is designed for permanent rack studio installations, with features such as extended ADAT I/O, and separate rear-panel inputs for mic, line and instruments; dedicated phantom power, phase reverse and high-pass filters on every channel.

Focusrite says the products also offer dynamic ranges up to 116dB in an analog-to-digital mode and up to 118dB in a digital-to-analog mode, and new 64-bit AAX, AU and VST compatible Red 2 and Red 3 plugin suite options.
