Fulcrum Acoustic FW15 Stage Monitor Employs Cardioid Technologies

Published: 2018-07-18

[related]Adding to its diverse line of installation speakers, subwoofers, studio monitors and arrays, the new Fulcrum Acoustic FW15 stage monitor provides front of house (FOH) engineers with a system-friendly stage monitor and employing cardioid technologies.

Fulcrum Acoustic says that it designed the FW15 stage monitor from the ground up with the user in mind.

According to the company, the FW15 is the first cardioid-based stage monitor, and more specifically it incorporate’s Fulcrum’s proprietary Passive Cardioid Technology. Through the implementation of the Passive Cardioid Technology, Fulcrum says the “tour-grade” stage monitor is able to attenuate rear low-frequency radiation, which negatively impacts the sound quality the audience hears, as well as affecting stage microphones and front fills.

Driving the Fulcrum Acoustic FW15 stage monitor’s dispersion characteristics is a coaxial transducer and a 75-degree horn x 75-degree horn that helps the monitor to produce its soundstage.

FW15 incorporates a large-format 3-inch compression driver, along with a 3.5-inch voice coil and a 15-inch woofer to support the product’s headroom capabilities.

Fulcrum points out the FW15 incorporates a large-format 3-inch compression driver, along with a 3.5-inch voice coil and a 15-inch woofer to support the product’s headroom capabilities.

Coupling the monitor’s pattern control with its TQ DSP processing, Fulcrum says helps the monitor to perform consistently on and off axis.

Other performance elements built into the FW15 include a multi-faceted inclosure with 40-degree and 55-degree angles for downstage and upstage applications, and tour-build considerations such as an ergonomic design with double-grille construction and a choice of four-input locations to minimize cable runs.

Explaining the acoustical design of the FW15 stage monitor in greater detail, Fulcrum Acoustic says the product’s, “cardioid behavior is produced by a meticulously conceived acoustical circuit that balances the position of the coaxial driver/horn assembly, the enclosure depth and volume—and specially constructed side ports toward the back of the cabinet, which include a calibrated resistive element.  The FW15’s subcardioid low-frequency control produces 3- to 4dB of 90-degree off-axis rear rejection over its operating range.”
