Qualcomm Announces New Wifi 6, Bluetooth Offerings

Published: 2020-06-02

Chipmaker Qualcomm has introduced a new portfolio of Wifi 6 and Bluetooth offerings that should bring added value to integrators providing audio solutions.

The FastConnect 6900 and FastConenct 6700 mobile connectivity systems offer up to 3.6 GBps on a mobile WiFi offering with VR-class low latency and Bluetooth advancements for audio use cases.

This extends the power of WiFi 6 into the 6 GHz band and advances wireless audio with cutting-edge integrated Bluetooth 5.2 features, says Qualcomm vice president and GM of mobile and compute connectivity Dino Bekis, in a statement.

“These innovations enable us to further break away from the pack and deliver a connectivity portfolio optimized to accelerate global adoption across multiple smartphone tiers,” Bekis says.

Powering the performance for both systems are the Qualcomm 4K QAM (2.4, 5, 6, GHz), which can extend the maximum QAM rate across any supported band and support for 160 MHz channels in both 5 and 6 GHz to expand throughput while reducing congestion.

According to Qualcomm, FastConnect 6900 delivers an extra boost of performance through additional unique feature implementation of 4-stream Dual Band Simultaneous (DBS) with multi-band (including 6 GHz) capabilities.

Those improvements include up to 1200 MHz of additional spectrum, dual band 160 MHz to support up to seven additional non-overlapping channels in the 6 GHz band and 160 MHz in the 5 GHz band, high-performance uplink/downlink MU-MIMO and OFDMA mobile technologies across all available bands.

The platforms provide a new class of ultra-low latency and high speed for emerging mobile applications like mobile gaming and XR applications.

Both 6900 and 6700 integrate Bluetooth 5.2 with the latest audio enhancements, like a second Bluetooth antenna with intelligent switching capabilities and readiness for emerging LE audio like multi-point audio sharing and broadcast audio.
