NSCA Committees Give Association Greater Reach Inside and Outside AV Industry

The National System Contractors Association has long been known as an advocate for its members, particularly on the legislative front, where its leadership has worked tirelessly to make sure any laws and bills that could harm the systems installation industry is considered carefully before being passed.

Now, under the leadership of NSCA president Josh Shanahan, the association has launched several committees with an eye toward increasing the influence of its members in a variety of areas.

Each NSCA committee has goals that are measured monthly, says Shanahan, and includes several industry members who are interested in specific areas and have skill sets that complement them.

“They volunteer their time and add value when and where they can,” says Shanahan. “These committees are an example of how NSCA tracks everything happening in each corner of the industry so we can be the first to alert members to changes.”

More About NSCA Committees

Here’s a closer look at each of the NSCA committees and their goals:

NSCA Committees

  • Codes and Compliance Committee, which raises awareness and action on key legislative and regulatory issues
  • Emerging Technologies Committee, which tracks enabling and disruptive technology for members and educates them on the business impact
  • Events Committee, which provides insight and input on curriculum content for events like the Business & Leadership Conference and Pivot to Profit
  • Executive Committee, which ensures the effectiveness, performance, and practices of our executive director and other NSCA staff
  • Finance Committee, which provides timely, relevant, and accurate reporting of financial information to NSCA management and helps make decisions about future association investments
  • Leadership Development Council, which provides guidance and mentoring to the board of directors on governance issues and develops long-range strategies for talent management and leadership needs
  • Marketing/PR Committee, which supports the growth and success of NSCA through awareness initiatives and weighs in on how NSCA presents itself through marketing materials and the media
  • Membership Committee, which constantly examines ways NSCA can offer more value to members and help them make maximum use of the tools already available
  • Next-Gen Committee, which focuses on making the industry relevant to up-and-coming leaders and young talent
  • Web Presence and Tools Committee, which supports NSCA staff by providing input and direction on website content, web tools, and new technology to consider

“Each committee’s contributions change based upon what’s happening industry-wide,” says Shanahan.

The Codes and Compliance Committee has been the most impactful recently based on legislative activity and emphasis on school security, but Shanahan is confident the other committees will have increasing levels of influence over time.
