QSC is well known for power amps and loudspeakers, but the company was insisting during InfoComm 2015 that integrators and others “rethink QSC” (even employing the #RethinkQSC for Twitter to help spread the word). End users are seeking reliable and high-performing audio solutions in verticals that now extend to corporate, education, health care, etc., and between its legacy products and the Q-Sys system that combines controls and audio processing, QSC is poised to broaden horizons while remaining a go-to brand.
“QSC has historically been known as kind of a rock ‘n’ roll company, big speakers, loud amplifiers, and we do that work and will continue to do that work, but we’ve really been focused on the corporate AV market, higher education, government stuff and the suite of products that we’re introducing this year is all playing into that space,” says Frank West, director of systems sales, U.S. Central. QSC introduced two half-rack amplifiers, the SPA 2-60 and SPA 4-60 (for 2 or 4 channels at 60 watts per channel) that offer installation versatility thanks to a dip switch that can run 4- or 8-ohm stereo operation, or bridge the channels for 200 watts at 4 or 8 ohms and one 250-watt channel in 70-volt mode. “These are half-rack, Energy Star amplifiers that really are kind of geared toward that day-to-day installation where I’ve got some 70-volt speakers or maybe a pair of small program speakers and I need just a simple way to power them without taking up too much space in a rack,” says West.
