With 4K Ultra HD now in demand more, customers will be looking for more ways to deploy it and have content distributed to multiple displays. ZeeVee’s new ZyPer4K encoders/decoders allow integrators to leverage standard 10-gig switching products to transmit uncompressed 4K signals in multizone environments. The company says the product allows for unlimited scalability by avoiding input/output restrictions and fixed matrix architecture.

“You buy a 32-port switch, it’s 16 x 16. You want to add two more ports? Buy a new switch, a bigger one. You need a bigger switch, you need a bigger control system, you need a bigger everything – you just tossed away all that money,” CEO Bob Michaels says of the potential upgrade path with proprietary systems. “So we say, how do we make things simple for people? How do we make them more affordable? We can go through a standard 10-gig switch. Cisco knows how to move data, I don’t think anybody’s going to argue with that, and they know how to move it fast and move lots of it. But you’re not tied to Cisco, you can buy Cisco, Dell, HP, Netgear, whatever you want – just needs to be Layer 3.”

Additionally, instead of having to label every type of connection that’s been home run, the switch recognizes what it’s connected to and can reconfigure itself when it gets plugged into something different, saving installation time on that potentially time-consuming process. “We take almost 7 gigs for video, we take a couple gigs for audio and control, and then we provide a port for a 1-gig Internet path on every transmitter and receiver,” says Michaels. “So at every TV you could hook up a wireless access point or you could hook up your laptop, or where the source is as well, and that’s huge for people.”
