Alamo Drafthouse Deploys Outdoor Projection for ‘Jaws on the Water’ Event

Published: 2015-07-22

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, Alamo Drafthouse is inviting film fans to grab a rubber tube and a beer and watch the cinematic classic on an enormous outdoor Rolling Roadshow screen from the water at the Texas Ski Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas.

“It’s one of the most talked about events we’ve ever produced,” says Alamo Drafthouse. “We’re making it better than ever this year, too, with new lenses on our projectors that will give a stronger viewing angle.”

“Back in 2002, we invited the brave people of Austin to join us for a special screening of Jaws where we would point our giant outdoor Rolling Roadshow screen toward the water and the audience would all watch while floating on inner tubes. People who were lucky enough to be there speak of it in hushed tones. People who didn’t get a chance to attend sometimes lie and say they were there, because they know how amazing it was.”

The Drafthouse is bringing ‘Jaws on the Water’ back this July and August for a rerun of the timeless classic.

Alamo Drafthouse says their customers always mention the event to out-of-towners. “That movie theater that one time made people sit in a lake to watch Jaws,” they say, according to the Drafthouse. “And so after years of hearing those stories whispered, we decided it was finally time to bring the event back and to bring it back in a big way.”

The Alamo Drafthouse spent weeks scouring central Texas for the perfect location for this year’s event, finding a suitable venue in the Texas Ski Ranch.

“Moving the event to this location allows us to have the best presentation of Jaws for people in water that we’ve ever had and partnering with the Texas Ski Ranch also means that we’ll have plenty of satellite bars around the location to keep people’s thirst quenched all night long, including some special floating bars that you can swim up to (if you don’t get eaten first).”
