Christie Steals Spotlight on Star Wars Premiere Red Carpet

Published: 2015-12-17

Even if you’ve been living under a rock, by now surely you’ve heard about the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” this week in theaters worldwide. The force of Christie projectors was strong enough that they were included in the star-studded world premiere in Los Angeles on Dec. 14.

Whether you’ve visited the exhibit of Star Wars costumes at Discovery Times Square or decided which Star Wars technology you most wish existed, the seventh movie in the family is coming soon to a theater near you.

Christie’s projectors helped to provide red carpet displays for the lucky fans who got to see the highly anticipated movie before the rest of the hungry masses who can’t wait to find out what happens to some of their favorite classic characters from the saga and meet new ones along the way.

Kern and his team first became aware of Christie’s products when he saw them as part of an “Electric Holiday” display at the Barneys New York flagship store on Madison Avenue.

“That’s where we first fell in love with the Christie MicroTiles – with their high resolution, shallow depth, virtually seamless canvas and true-to-life image quality – so we were eager to include them in the red carpet backdrop for one of our biggest premieres,” said Michael Kern.

Christie’s team “provided technical consultation at every stage of the installation, from concept creation, to pre-staging, onsite setup and delivery,” according to the press release.

The aggressive timeline led Christie staffers to configure and pre-stage much of the equipment needed for the installation in the company’s headquarters in Cypress, Calif., in the days before it was set up in front of the movie theater.

Christie coolux Pandoras Box media servers powered a variety of displays, including 388 Christie MicroTiles that formed a back drop to the red carpet walkway and 18 Christie LCD panels that graced the red carpet.

“Christie projection technologies have powered some of Disney’s most famous world premiere events, including ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and ‘High School Musical,’ so it was totally in keeping with our commitment to our esteemed customer to pull out the stops to support the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” said Sean James, vice president of Christie Global Professional Services, in the press release.

The relationship between Christie and Star Wars isn’t likely to end any time soon, especially with two more movies expected to round out the saga.

Christie signed with Walt Disney Studios in October 2013 to “provide the latest digital cinema technologies and a variety of professional services for The Walt Disney Studios’ production, post-production, screening rooms and premieres,” according to the announcement. Christie provides Disney’s digital studio services team with around-the-clock support for its digital cinema facilities.

For those who can’t get enough Star Wars in their lives, Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon this week teamed up with his house band, The Roots, and several stars of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” to create an a capella medley of some of the saga’s classic music. Good luck getting this out of your head anytime soon.
