Sometimes it seems like only a matter of time before LED completely takes over the video wall market. Used for its low power consumption and outstanding image quality, more and more manufacturers are turning to LED.

Planar jumped on the LED bandwagon years ago but it’s not stopping there. At InfoComm 2016, Planar, which was acquired by the Leyard last year, introduced the Leyard TWA Series fine pitch LED video walls.

The new video walls deliver “the pixel density and form-factor similar to LCD and rear projection video walls, but with a truly seamless image that can be configured to nearly any size,” according to Planar’s announcement. The 54-inch flat panel design boasts impressive image quality and 24-7 mission critical reliability.

“The Leyard TWA Series was designed to be a seamless drop-in replacement to legacy LCD and rear projection video walls,” says Steve Seminario, VP of product marketing at Planar and Leyard International. “Customers want truly seamless LED technology, while maintaining their requirements for video wall size, aspect ratio, standard resolutions, 24×7 reliability and a desire to view the video wall from reasonable indoor viewing distances.

The displays are available now in 1.2mm pixel pitch and later this year in 1.8mm.

More from Planar’s announcement:

The Leyard TWA Series offers a unique, energy-efficient design, unsurpassed image quality and 24×7 reliability, making it ideal for both control room and digital signage applications.

• Unique design: The Leyard TWA Series is a unique flat panel LED video wall display offering a slim 54-inch cabinet and the finest pixel pitches available on the market today. The result is a pixel density and form-factor to rival LCD and rear projection video walls, but with a truly seamless solution that can be configured to nearly any size.

• Common form factor: The Leyard TWA Series is designed with a 16:9 aspect ratio compatible with most displays, making content development and video wall processing easier right out-of-the-box.

• Energy-efficient: Leyard TWA Series LED video walls use an average 35 percent less power than conventional LED video wall displays, making it among the industry’s most energy-efficient LED video wall solution.

• Advanced image quality: The Leyard TWA Series delivers a crisp, high contrast image that uses the highest quality black LEDs, black solder mask and MicroGrid Shader™ to achieve the deepest level of blacks. It also provides image improvements over prior products, including wider viewing angles that deliver excellent off-axis uniformity and advanced calibration that bestows maximum full color and brightness uniformity across even the largest video walls with no visible seams.

• 24×7 reliability: The Leyard TWA Series is designed for high reliability, long life and ease of service. It is built to operate around the clock and is available with redundant power supply and video source options to ensure uninterrupted operation in the event of a failure. Individual displays can be quickly serviced on-site. The larger 54″ size means fewer displays are needed to create a video wall, reducing potential points-of-service.

“The market for sub-2 millimeter direct-view LED displays grew an unprecedented 366 percent in 2015, making it among the fastest growing categories in the video wall category,” says Sanju Khatri, director of digital signage and professional displays for the industry analyst, IHS Technology.  “The category is expected to continue into 2016 with a robust 84.8 percent rise in shipments forecasted.  Leyard is a pioneer and a market leader in this category, having sold more fine pixel pitch LED displays in the past three years than any other brand.”

The Leyard TWA Series joins several other high resolution display innovations that will be showcased by Leyard and Planar at InfoComm 2016, including:

• A technology demonstration of an 8K native resolution 65″ LCD display for pixel-free viewing even at close viewing distances.

• The launch of Clarity® Matrix™ with Extreme Narrow Bezel, a 55″ LCD video wall system with the industry’s smallest tiled bezel width of just 1.6 millimeters which sets the standard for LCD video wall installations with a unique architecture and award-winning features.

• The newly launched Leyard® CarbonLight™ LED display solutions, a family of flexible, lightweight displays uniquely constructed of carbon fiber for rental and staging and fixed installations in broadcast, corporate and exhibit spaces.

• Next-generation Planar® UltraRes™ Series 75-inch, 84-inch, and 98-inch Ultra HD resolution LCD displays, providing unparalleled image quality and visual performance, multi-source viewing and support for native 4K at up to 60Hz.

• Planar® EP Series of high-performance 4K LCD displays, offered in sizes ranging from 50 to 65-inches and engineered from the ground up for demanding 24×7 commercial environments.
