Inside the No-Bezel (or Nearly-No-Bezel) Video Wall Trend

During Digital Signage Expo 2013, LXi showcased its 0 Bezel Video Wall. After the show, CI columnist Mark Coxon wrote about the use of “0 Bezel” to describe it: “That term means little, I know, as it has been used to promote displays with very thin but still visible black bezels …. How do you keep the resolution of backlit LCD, while getting the advantage of true LED screen’s bezel-less nature?
“Combine them.
“That is what LXi has done. They have produced backlit LCD screens with narrow bezels, and have embedded LEDs in those bezels to extend the image over the gaps between the backlit panels. They actually use a controller to scan the image a few pixels larger and extend the image out onto the LED bezel, creating a virtually seamless picture for a few feet away. Sure, the resolution is low for a couple MM on the bezels, but the effect from afar lights the bezels up enough for the eye to virtually ignore that interruption (our eyes are drawn to brightness and contrast before resolution).”
