ISE Announces Lineup for RISE Spotlight: Live Events Experiences, Reimagined

Published: 2021-02-01

Integrated Systems Events will go live with its fourth RISE Spotlight Feb. 3 with a look at the future of live events in a post-pandemic world.

The virtual event, in partnership with The Next Web, is entitled “Live Events Experiences, Reimagined.”

“Whether virtual, in-person or hybrid, audiovisual and emerging tech will be at the heart of creating the next era of live experience,” the announcement says. “For those who produce or host events, it’s imperative to be aware of what audiences are looking for and what tech is set to accelerate.”

FEATURED REPORT

ISE has teamed up with TPi magazine for the Roundtable and On the Sofa elements of this month’s RISE Spotlight. TPi covers the design and technology of live events, from concert, gig and festival productions to theatre shows and temporary events.

Editor Stew Hume brings an in-depth knowledge of the live events industry – one which he says is inherently full of problem solvers. He aims to highlight some of the inspirational stories of people who, despite the odds, kept live music alive in 2020.

He has put together a roster of seasoned live events professionals who will share their views on emerging new business models, innovative ways of engaging with audiences and creating meaningful experiences.

The program will open with “Startup Nation.” Yvan Boudillet, founder of entertainment and events accelerator TheLynk, will present examples of livestream and virtual events organised by partners in the Next Stage Challenge, and talk about what’s next for live events in 2021.

Tom Wilson, a partner at Seedcamp—a European seed bank—will share his favorite startup businesses in the live events space, looking at the technologies and innovations poised to help the industry transition into the digital realm.

Next will be AVIXA Insights, in which AVIXA senior director of market intelligence Sean Wargo will present data illustrating how the live events industry was hit in 2020 and what the recovery is expected to look like.

In the Reporter Roundtable, panelists will take part in a discussion on how live music is evolving in the digital world, touching on streaming, XR performances and the gamification of shows. Moderated by Stew Hume of TPi, the line-up includes:

  • Ric Salmon – CEO, Driift
  • Emma Bull – artistic director and show producer
  • Robin Collings – co-director, Lost Horizon

Next, there will be a live one-to-one ‘On the Sofa’ interview with Wob Roberts, chairman of the Touring Production Group, as well as Production Manager for acts such as Sam Smith and Chainsmokers.

Wob will talk about the ongoing state of the live events industry, how COVID-19 has affected the crew workforce and how training the next generation of crew is likely to proceed.

The session will conclude with Watercooler Virtual Meets. Attendees can select from two simultaneous networking sessions, with the opportunity to participate in live conversations with industry experts.

  • Malle Kaas, CEO of Women in Live Events, will talk about Diversity backstage and how to increase the participation of underrepresented demographics in live events;
  • Wargo will talk to Matthew Thompson, managing director/owner of AVTEAMUK, about how his company has responded to the challenges of the pandemic and what long-term changes he envisages for the live events industry.
