A lot happens in this industry in a month. Just ask Whitlock which hires a pair of managers for key regions and AVI-SPL which elevated its relationship with Oblong (a manufacturer with some collaboration momentum). Also, ask Revolabs, which about three years after being acquired by Yamaha, saw its co-founder and CEO JP Carney stepping down and succeeded by Yamaha group manager of communication system development group Masanori “Mick” Kamihara.

Whitlock added Simon Davis, who brings 30 years of commercial AV and video collaboration integration and consulting experience to its Massachusetts market, while also adding Alyson Horn, a 25-year veteran in the audio and video solutions market, is now the its regional director for South Central, Texas operations, which includes Dallas, Austin and the surrounding areas.

AVI-SPL picked a good time to cozy up to Oblong which recently launched its Mezzanine Teamwork collaboration solution targeted as smaller meeting spaces than its original Mezzanine solutions do. “Oblong is one of those forward-thinking technology companies truly changing the way we work, collaborate, and create,” says Dale Bottcher, senior vice president of sales for AVI-SPL, in a press release. “They’re transforming workplaces for our clients around the world by providing a better collaborative user experience for generating ideas with parallel work processes.”

The news out of Revolabs, that co-founder Carney is out in favor of a Yamaha-groomed replacement is bitter sweet, so we’ll let Carney’s words stand on their own:

As an entrepreneur, I’ve enjoyed founding, guiding, and growing Revolabs, first as a leading audiovisual company and then becoming a successful IT solutions provider that ultimately was acquired by the global leader in superior audio, Yamaha Corporation.

It has been three years since the acquisition, and during that time, Revolabs has solidly positioned itself to continue executing its strategy for growth, which has given me the opportunity to step down personally and professionally.

Yamaha is committed to and intently focused on the UC space, as demonstrated by our first joint audio video solution, the CS-700, which carries the Yamaha brand. Revolabs has strong strategic partnerships, an innovative roadmap for the future, and with Mick assuming the CEO role, Yamaha will unify their UC assets under one leadership to continue building into the future.”
