Bogen Releases Software-Based Nyquist IP Paging and Intercom System

Published: 2017-04-18

For decades Bogen Communications has provided integrators with reliable analog intercom solutions. Branching out from its traditional product designs, the company has launched its Nyquist IP paging and intercom system.

Named after the famous physicist and electrical engineer Harry Nyguist, Bogen says its new IP-based paging and intercom system is a software-based solution designed for today’s educational spaces.

Software-Based IP Paging and Intercom System

At the heart of Bogen’s Nyguist system is its software, which includes an easy-to-use interface.

Bogen explains the software resides on a network server and utilizes existing networking infrastructure. Bogen goes on to say that integrators can scale the Nyquist to build basic systems, and later build out the system to fit the ever changing needs of the customer.

Bridging the technologies of yesterday and today, theIP paging and intercom system includes an Analog Station Bridge option that allows users to utilize their existing analog speakers and call switches.

Bogen says that many Nyquist end-point appliances are also PoE enabled to support integrators’ ability to configure systems that omit bulky racks.

Through the software-based architecture of the system, Bogen points out that all integrators need to do is install the software, and add the end points. Bogen notes that once the installed software and physical connections are set, the server will then auto discover the end-point appliances.

Nyquist GUI Love

The Mahwah, N.J.-based company says that once integrators have the system setup and configured, administrators, educators and support staff members will appreciate the flexibility of the system.

Bogen emphasizes its goal with the design of the software is simplicity. Stating that its ease of operation is apparent with the software’s ability to allow users with a range of technical prowess to use the system. Bogen points out the software’s buttons are large and clear with text that is easy to read, and embedded tool tips and guides aid users throughout their time in the graphic user interface (GUI).

The Nyquist hardware includes these components:

  • Input/Output Controller (NQ-E7010)
  • Digital Call Switch (NQ-E7020)
  • Analog Station Bridge (NQ-E7030)
  • Matrix Mixer Pre-Amp (NQ-PO100)
  • VoIP Speaker NQ-S1810CT (ceiling)
  • VoIP Speaker NQ-S181WT (wall baffle)

The software is engineered for installation on servers provided by a school’s IT department.

Server requirements include Debian Linux OS (AMD 64-bit version) release 8.4.0 or later, along with quad-core Intel-based processors running at 3.0GHz or higher, and 8GBs of RAM.

Other requirements needed for proper operation are 250GBs of disk storage and RAID capabilities if available, 10/100/1000 MB Ethernet port connectivity, and PCI expansion slots.
