Belden Joins SDVoE, Bringing Alliance Member Total to 23

Published: 2017-08-03

Since CI broke the news of a new alliance aimed at standardizing AV over IP, Software Defined Video Over Ethernet (SDVoE), in November of 2016, the alliance has developed some impressive momentum when it comes to generating new members. Belden is the latest to join SDVoE bringing the alliance member company total to 23.

No doubt fueled by impressive presences at Integrated Systems Europe 2017 and InfoComm 2017, SDVoE seems to be announcing a new member every couple of weeks. Belden falls in line with the member mix vision that SDVoE Alliance president Justin Kennington described to CI in November 2016 — that “they are not exclusively AV box manufacturers.”

For a group aiming to standardize AV over IP, Kennington said it was important to rally manufacturers from AV and IT; software vendors; and more. “My concept in going to recruit this membership is No. 1, it only succeeds as an eco-system. If there were just a few box manufactures there are limits to the value that has. When we can expand that and bring in hardware manufacturers, software manufacturers, switch vendors … bringing them all together, it makes it much more powerful to the IT guy.”

Why Belden Is an SDVoE Fit

Belden’s innovative connectivity solutions take a universal approach to AV and IT signal transmission needs, according to an SDVoE Alliance press release:

As the industry adapts to Internet of Things (IoT) and convergence – bringing multiple disparate systems together onto one network for better communication, mobility, efficiency and safety – Belden’s complete portfolio of audio, video and communication products spans the needs of any cabling solution, helping organizations of all kinds integrate the delivery of high-definition, uncompressed signals …

… “We’re pleased to become an active member of the SDVoE Alliance,” says Dave Geon, vice president of USA sales for Belden. “Years of research and development, spanning multiple levels of the OSI model, put us in a position to support the adoption of AV-over-IP platforms. Belden’s deep understanding of AV technology extends beyond cable and connectivity to include the active component brands in our portfolio – including Grass Valley, Thinklogical and Tripwire – which gives us unique insight into AV and IT platforms, and how they can work together.”

“The mission of the SDVoE Alliance is to provide the solid, stable, reliable and cost-effective AV-over-IP platform the pro AV market needs to fully realize the benefits of standardized Ethernet infrastructure,” said Justin Kennington, president of the SDVoE Alliance. “We look forward to working with Belden to capitalize on their vast experience in connectivity solutions and lessons learned during the broadcast industry transition from SDI to IP-based systems.”

In the AV industry, the demand for higher-performance communications has become more prevalent than ever before. As a result, professional and quality cabling systems and components that span a vast spectrum of applications are necessary. Belden’s cabling and connectivity expertise and performance in the broadcast industry has positioned it as the brand that customers and consultants have come to trust. As the industry adjusts to IP convergence throughout the broadcast and professional AV markets, Belden is well positioned with a broad product portfolio of audio, video, and communication solutions utilizing coax, fiber, hybrid fiber, multi-conductor and category cable and connectivity products including connectors, assemblies, panels and racks.
