Matrox, AIMS Promote Open Standards for AV-over-IP
Matrox and the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) Pro AV Working Group spent time at InfoComm 2019 promoting the real-world benefits of open standards for AV over IP and interoperability within the pro AV space. AIMS presented an education session, and the AIMS booth hosted educational presentations and multi-vendor interoperability demonstrations that showcased the benefits of the SMPTE ST 2110 standard.
The AIMS Pro AV Working Group’s mission is to define an open-standards approach to addressing the pro AV world’s move towards IP media. “When everything is based on a single open standard, users are able to mix and match the best products to suit the customer’s needs,” says David Chiappini, vice president of research and development, Matrox Graphics Inc. “We have seen this approach work in the broadcast field with SMPTE ST 2110. It was built over many years by hundreds of stakeholders—from manufacturers, end users, and service providers—working towards a common goal. It is important to use the same strategy of education, engagement, and cooperation to ensure truly future-proofed interoperability.”
One of the demos at the AIMS booth included the Matrox X.mio5 Q25 network interface controller (NIC) card used in an end-to-end, multi-vendor interoperability demonstrations to showcase the SMPTE 2110 standard in action.
