Has Nature Ever Sat on Your AV Install Jobs Like This Kookaburra?

Published: 2019-09-24

We’ve already documented what happened to some poor integrators’ AV install jobs when things like squirrels, lightning storms, and earthquakes came to play. But kookaburras? This is a first for us.

But it doesn’t seem as though the birds seen goofing around on an LED lighting unit in this video re-posted to the AV Install Nightmares Facebook group were as much of a nightmare as the examples above.

The light fixture is still able to rotate… I guess Kookaburras aren’t that heavy?

What you probably don’t know about me is that I’m a big bird fan, so if I was the sound guy at whatever event this took place during, I probably couldn’t even bring myself to be mad.

But watching the video got me to thinking about some of the stories in the above-linked story on nature getting in the way of AV install jobs.

It’s easy to get caught up in one’s work duties and take for granted one’s own ability to simply show up to a job site and get it done. But when nature — in all of its feathery glory — steps in, there’s hopefully a reminder that the rest of the Earth is there, too, and your worries are very small in significance to the rest of the universe… Whew, was there something in my coffee today? Did I eat too much granola or something?!

Have you ever encountered nature on the job?

Was it as innocuous as those birds spinning themselves on the light fixture, or was it much more serious?

I’d be curious to know if the savvy integrators reading this blog have ever encountered something unexpected — for better or worse — on their job site.

If this prompt brings you back to a particular time, we’d love to hear about it. Email me at adam.forziati@emeraldexpo.com, or just leave a comment below!
