Shure Launches Axient Digital Wireless System at NAB 2017

Published: 2017-05-05

During NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) 2017, the audio manufacturer Shure introduced its Axient Digital Wireless System.

Building on the benefits of Shure’s UHF-R, ULX-D solutions, the Axient Digital Wireless System is said to be the company’s most advanced wireless microphone system to date.

“For years, Shure has been at the forefront of the ongoing spectrum conversation, working alongside professional wireless users to deliver first-class solutions that support seamless, interference-free productions,” says Nick Wood, category director for wireless products, Shure.

“Given the increasing challenges of RF spectrum, it’s more essential than ever that users have access to a system that can deliver the critical audio inputs of a production reliably over the air. With unparalleled RF stability and spectral efficiency, Axient Digital  offers users the flexibility to work in the available spectrum, whether the number of channels required is great or small.”

Shure says the system is designed for the highest levels of signal stability. Shure uses its Quadversity receiver technology to help maintain reliability. Quadversity allows users to place sets of diversity antennas in separate zones, which doubles the amount of antennas in a single zone to improve RF signal-to-noise in tough wireless environments.

The system’s High Density mode increases simultaneous maximum channel counts from 17 to 47 per 6MHz TV band and from 23 to 63 per 8MHz TV band. Shure says the digital wireless system offers the best possible audio quality through Dante and AES3, along with a flat frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz, and secure AES-256 encryption protection. Shure also points out the system’s Dante Cue and Dante Browse features support high fidelity headphone monitoring of audio through any Dante-enabled device.

Control options include compatibility with Wireless Workbench and ShurePlus Channels for streamlined setup and configuration, including optimized spectrum management and frequency monitoring.

In addition, the Axient Digital Wireless System provides a tuning range up to 184MHz for all transmitter and receivers, and Shure notes it offers networked charging via a suite of batteries and chargers that includes compatibility with its Shure Battery Rack Charger (SBRC) that supports up to eight rechargeable batteries in a compact rack space.

“Axient Digital has been designed from the ground up to overcome the challenges users encounter in a wide variety of applications, including pro touring, theater production and television broadcasting,” comments Michael Johns, product manager, Shure. “Including unique designs such as a frequency diversity handheld microphone [ADX2FD], and a unique micro-bodypack with a self tuning internal antenna [ADX1M], Axient Digital will allow both engineers and talent alike to confidently rely on pristine digital audio in the midst of even the most challenging of environments.”
