DWP Live and Klip Team Up Again on Deck the Halls Light Show in Philadelphia

Published: 2020-12-08

Like most things these days, the Deck the Halls Light Show presented by Independence Blue Cross in Philadelphia was redesigned to help reinforce social distancing protocols.

Unlike in past years, when the light show ran at specified times, Deck the Hall Holiday Lights will play continuously throughout the evening through Jan. 1 on a 30-minute loop and without musical accompaniment, allowing guests to enjoy the lights at their leisure without drawing crowds.

As the images and colors change throughout runtime, there will be periodic sound effects. A special message from one of 6abc’s on-air personalities will remind guests to adhere to current safety guidelines, including wearing masks and keeping six feet of social distance.

Produced with support from the Center City District and 6abc, the display was created by Philadelphia-based art and design studio Klip Collective. The daily schedule is as follows:

Sunday-Thursday: 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Friday-Saturday:  5 p.m. – 11 p.m.

“This holiday season may be as meaningful as any we have ever experienced,” said 6abc president and general manager Bernie Prazenica. “We are proud to support safe, socially distant activities at Dilworth Park, including Deck the Hall Holiday Lights.

“We hope it will bring some much-needed joy to Center City residents and visitors,” he said.

DWP Live is once again handling the projection mapping for Deck the Halls along with partner Klip Collective.

DWP Live and Klip projected a light and music show onto the West Market Street side of City Hall in Philadelphia.

Using 4x 30k lumen projectors, the festive visuals synced to music and created a cheerful holiday celebration with an output resolution of 1920×3200. The show features projection-mapped animations that illuminate the intricate structural and decorative details of City Hall’s historic architecture.

Last year, the Deck the Halls event added interactive keyboards on-site for Play the Lights. As visitors played the instruments, the projected lights danced along to the music.

Professional pianists and organists also participated as part of Play the Lights and helped bring the spirit of the project to life.

Now, in its fourth year, the light show continues to expand and improve to create a vibrant, new experience for all attendees.
