Timing Is Everything with Future Technology

Published: 2017-02-28

Scott Klososky is no stranger to those who’ve attended NSCA’s Business and Leadership Conference for many years.

When he hosts the executive “power hour” on future trends and technology, it’ll be his third time at the event in its 19th year. In the past, Klososky has talked to the audience about business improvements such as lower costs and driving revenue. This time, he’ll be focused on the future of technology.

The most important aspect of new technology, says Klososky, is how it helps improve communication and helps ideas flourish.

“I’ve been fascinated by how technology changes the world,” he says.

Another underrated critical piece, though, is the timing of when you adopt and employ new technology, says Klososky. [related]

“You can read about new technology all the time but when do you invest in it? You can be right on the bleeding edge if you’re too early with it and you can miss out on a lot of opportunities if you wait too long,” he says.

Klososky has a sense a lot of AV integrators are part of the latter group based on his conversations with them at previous BLCs.

“Too many people want to see six or seven people use the technology and see what happens when they do,” he says. “The problem with that is then you end up losing market share to those six or seven competitors.”

There’s no reason to be afraid of new technology, says Klososky, and he knows integrators must lead the charge in helping those new technologies become commonplace in new places for their customers.

“I really just want to make them think and to see the future in a different way,” he says.
