In CI’s State of the Industry Report (see main article) we theorized that market opportunities are strong for the industry’s largest firms and smaller, niche firms. The bigger question marks surround mid-sized firms and how they can compete with their large footprint or more focused competitors.

ESCO Communications, in jumping from $26 million to $36 million in annual revenues in just two years has quickly thrust itself into the mid-sized range. The Indianapolis-based firm, which does nearly a third of its business in both the health care and higher education markets, indicates that some of its recent growth stems from its customers expanding adoption of video.

“IPTV is really growing in universities,” says ESCO’s Chip Roth, adding that the same is true for another market it services, sports venues. “Video walls has been a big growth category as well.”
