In this exclusive interview with Brian Grahn, regional sales manager, southwest U.S., with Clear-ComCommercial Integrator dives into the world of communication systems. During the conversation, we cover a range of topics – from the evolution of Clear-Com to the latest trends in IP-based and wireless communication technologies. Clear-Com is, of course, the Alameda, Calif.-based provider of broadcast media production and distribution technologies.

Clear-Com has a rich history, starting in the vibrant San Francisco area during the rock era. The company was founded to address the need for effective communication between front-of-house and stage technicians. Over the years, Clear-Com has evolved, of course. However, its core mission remains the same: providing reliable, real-time voice communication systems.

Clear-Com IP-Based and Wireless Communication Innovations

One of the most significant trends in communication systems technology is the shift to IP-based systems,  Grahn of Clear-Com explains. The company has been at the forefront of this transition with the development of its HelixNet digital party line technology. This family of wired party line intercom user stations and interfaces simplifies cabling and allows for handling greater complexity. In addition, the adoption of the AES67 protocol for wireless transceiver systems and digital matrix panels further enhances the capabilities of IP-based systems. The move toward a converged infrastructure offers numerous advantages, including streamlined operations and improved security.

Wireless technology has come a long way, and Clear-Com has been instrumental in this evolution. The transition from UHF to DECT 1.9 GHz digital wireless systems addresses many of the challenges associated with RF congestion. DECT systems offer self-coordination and larger coverage zones, making them ideal for modern communication needs.

Clear-Com Expands into Corporate Communications

Clear-Com’s solutions are not limited to traditional markets like theatrical live performance and broadcast. The company has made significant inroads into corporate communications, where the need for reliable, multi-site connectivity is growing. Clear-Com’s technology enables seamless communication across dispersed teams, whether in corporate offices, education institutions or houses of worship.

The use of virtual client solutions allows for remote connectivity, making it easier for teams to stay connected regardless of their location. This capability is particularly valuable in today’s globalized and hybrid work environments

Clear-Com continues to innovate with products like the Arcadia Central Station System, which integrates multiple systems into a single unit. This flexibility allows users to deploy both wired and wireless products efficiently.

Another exciting development is Clear-Com’s cloud-based solution, Gen- IC. This platform offers secure, scalable and easy-to-use intercom management, eliminating the need for dedicated hardware.
