Key Things to Know:
- Christ Covenant Church installed EAW AC6 ADAPTive loudspeakers and Otto subwoofers to address challenging acoustics in its diamond-shaped worship center.
- The upgrade eliminated harshness and uneven coverage, delivering clear, consistent sound across the uniquely shaped worship space.
- The lightweight, low-profile design of the AC6 allowed integration within the church’s structural constraints.
What challenges did Christ Covenant Church face with its audio system?
Christ Covenant Church’s diamond-shaped worship center struggled with uneven sound coverage, harshness, and low-frequency inconsistencies. Acoustic treatments helped but did not fully resolve the issues, leaving the church with frequent complaints about sound quality.
What led to the decision to choose EAW ADAPTive technology?
The turning point came when Tech Director Alexander Guadagno and A1 Audio Engineer Michael Seaman attended an EAW loudspeaker demo. “We were really blown away by the speakers and the ability to direct the sound off unwanted surfaces,” Seaman says. The lightweight design, directional control, and low-profile aesthetics of the AC6 made it the ideal choice for the church’s structural and acoustic challenges.
What does the new audio system include?
The system features four EAW AC6 ADAPTive column loudspeakers arranged in two vertical columns, flown at 15 feet, 9¼ inches from the stage deck. Two Otto subwoofers were installed in a center mono configuration to address low-frequency inconsistencies caused by the previous under-stage sub placement.
How has the new system improved audio quality?
The upgrade has dramatically improved sound clarity and evenness throughout the sanctuary. Complaints about harshness have disappeared, and the church can now run sound at 85–90 dB SPL with clear, comfortable audio. “People are saying they’re able to hear instruments they’ve never been able to hear before,” Guadagno says.
What has been the visual and congregational response?
The white finish of the AC6 loudspeakers seamlessly blends into the worship environment, earning praise from congregants. “Congregants love the new look of the speakers,” Guadagno says.
How does the system support additional church activities?
The church streams services to YouTube using a Waves LV1 system and DPA microphones. The new audio setup also supports theatrical elements for events like Vacation Bible School and positions the church to host touring artists again.
What does this upgrade mean for Christ Covenant Church?
The EAW installation marks the final step in a multi-year modernization effort, delivering a significant leap forward in audio quality. “We were able to get our ideal system installed,” Seaman says. “We’re very, very happy with it.”
