In this exclusive interview, Phil Langley of Wesco shares insights into the command-and-control category and its growing prominence. Langley, who is senior vice president, global enterprise AV and UCC, is a leading voice in the command-and-control category.
During his conversation with Dan Ferrisi, group editor, commercial and security, Emerald, Langley reflects on the democratization of command-and-control environments, which have expanded far beyond big emergency control centers. Now, he says, every data center has a NOC or a SOC. Indeed, at this point, every corporate office seems to have one. “What we’re seeing, like we’re seeing in a lot of pro AV, is the commoditization of some of this product, and the barriers to entry lowering because of that,” Langley observes. “Not all command-and-control spaces are the big end of town.”
Langley notes that, according to AVIXA data, the command-and-control space has reached about $18 billion worldwide, further underscoring the market’s profit potential for integrators. “Because it’s broadening, it’s a great opportunity for us,” he declares.
Phil Langley Explains Wesco Command-and-Control Focus
Talking about his organization specifically, Langley explains that Wesco really began to focus on command and control a couple of years ago. “We partnered with specialists like Barco that [were developing] new product to suit this space,” he says. Most important, though, is the aforementioned democratization of command-and-control spaces across verticals. “Take the less complex [work], which drives up volumes, so you’ve got high volumes over large geographic areas,” Langley explains, “which is where Wesco sits in.”
