- Founder and CEO Matt Lavine will maintain an equity stake and continue leading the business.
- Juniper wishes to partner with businesses in specialized, technically demanding sectors.
Juniper Capital Management just announced an investment in Bug ID on Tuesday morning.
Bug ID, Inc., an audiovisual systems design and integration firm, is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area. The investment marks the inaugural acquisition for Juniper Capital Fund I. It reflects Juniper’s strategy of partnering with businesses in specialized, technically demanding industrial and business services sectors.
What is Bug ID and Who Founded It?
CEO Matt Lavine founded Bug ID in 1997. Over the last three decades, he has built a reputation for delivering sophisticated AV solutions in environments that prioritize reliability and execution. The company designs, installs and supports audiovisual systems for some of the world’s largest, most prominent organizations. Its work spans complex environments, including media facilities, broadcast studios, control rooms, collaborative workplaces, higher education, healthcare research labs, immersive experiences and corporate campuses.
Bug ID’s systems are deeply integrated into its customers’ day-to-day operations. They support communication, collaboration, research, testing and production environments in real time. Uptime and quality are critical, as many of these systems are revenue-generating or essential to customer operations.
Lavine will retain a meaningful equity stake and continue to lead the business. He is partnering with Juniper to provide the capital, resources and strategic support to help accelerate the company’s next phase.
Is the Juniper Investment About Making Bug ID Different?
In exclusive comments to Commercial Integrator, Lavine says, “Bug ID has always been near and dear to my heart. This investment isn’t about becoming a different company — it’s about giving us the resources to build on what we’ve already created.”
He continues, “I’m excited to expand our team, serve more clients and, most importantly, teach new people the Bug ID philosophy: Listen first, put clients first, deliver exceptional work and never lose sight of the values that got us here.”
“Nearly three decades later, those values continue to guide our business and have earned us the trust of some of the world’s most innovative organizations,” Lavine adds. “Juniper understands that our success has always been rooted in our culture, our people and our commitment to our clients.”
Was This a Difficult Decision for Matt Lavine?
In further exclusive comments to Commercial Integrator, Lavine reflects on the thinking underpinning this move. “One of the things that made this decision easier is that I’ve never really had partners on the business side,” he explains. “I’ve always had an incredible team delivering for our clients, but, when it came to strategy, operations and growing the business, those decisions largely fell on me. Juniper changes that.”
He continues, “They become true partners who have helped many founder-led companies in highly technical service businesses become stronger, more efficient operators. They bring experience we’ve never had access to before, while respecting the culture and reputation that we’ve worked so hard to build.”
“To me, that’s the best of both worlds: We get the support and resources to grow without losing what makes Bug ID special,” Lavine adds.
Well Positioned for Growth
Bryan Grabowsky, co-founder and managing partner at Juniper Capital Management, says that Bug ID is exceptionally well positioned for growth.
He notes that the company is “…built on a long track record of delivering complex, high-stakes projects for some of the most demanding customers in the market.”
Grabowsky adds, “We are proud to partner with Matt and the team to support the company’s next phase.”
