What is the Planar Mantis Series?

The Planar Mantis Series is a new family of indoor LED videowalls built for rental and staging environments. Planar, based in Portland, Oregon, announced the line as a purpose-built option for live events, broadcast and virtual production where speed, reliability and ease of use are critical.

The company describes the series as its most focused LED product for rental and staging applications, developed to fit real-world production workflows.

How was the Planar Mantis Series designed?

The Planar Mantis Series was designed with direct customer input and support from Planar’s U.S. rental and staging team. Planar reports that the line reflects feedback from users and draws on decades of experience in live event and on-camera environments.

“Planar Mantis Series reinforces our reputation for delivering industry-leading LED display solutions that maximize visual impact, while facilitating hassle-free installation, teardown and maintenance,” says Sidney Rittenberg, CEO at Planar. “This line of high-performance LED videowalls was developed with a wide range of rental and staging venues and professionals in mind, incorporating customer feedback to introduce a solution that can be installed or dismantled without tools and with minimal training or LED experience.”

What setup and service features does it offer?

The Planar Mantis Series supports tool-less, one-handed installation and teardown. Its lightweight magnesium alloy chassis is designed to reduce weight while maintaining rigidity, which Planar says helps limit flexing and warping and maintain image alignment.

The series also includes quarter-turn locks and quick-lock mechanisms for field service. Modules and electronics can be replaced quickly, and cabinets can be attached or adjusted without tools.

What specifications and models are available?

The initial Planar Mantis Series models are available in 1.5 mm, 1.9 mm and 2.6 mm pixel pitches. The line offers brightness up to 1,500 nits, refresh rates up to 7,680Hz, a 4,000:1 contrast ratio and scan rates down to 1:8.

Planar offers 500×500 cabinets across the series, along with a 500×1000 cabinet size in the 2.6 mm pixel pitch.

What comes next for the series?

Additional Planar Mantis Series models for outdoor, right-angle and curved applications are planned. The company will publicly debut the series at InfoComm 2026 in booth C7258 in Las Vegas from June 17-19, and orders are scheduled to open in June.
