The Office

The AV business takeaway: Sure, there are plenty of laughs and hijinks along the way (particularly in the U.S. version of the show), but at its core, this is a show that blatantly displays what happens when large corporations ignore leadership development and promote the person who’s been around the longest without properly grooming him or her for what to expect when they become regional manager.

We’re glad there are some examples in the AV industry of companies that take succession planning seriously and don’t blindly let the longest-tenured employees fail upward or bring in outsiders who are equally unqualified.

On top of all that, we’ve all been away from our offices for so long that this show might bring you a little comfort as you think about your company’s Dwight, Creed, Andy, Kevin, Jim and Pam. — Craig MacCormack
