Survey: More Than Half of Employers Aren’t Helping Pay For Remote Work Necessities

If you were sent home to work with just a laptop and no other remote work supplies, then your employer isn’t doing quarantine-induced remote work right, according to a new survey.

Millions of office workers around the world were sent home after government-induced lockdowns forced their office to close, but new research suggests many employers may not be doing much to help foster remote work.

According to Canada-based enterprise finance management platform Procurify, 47% of employers have not offered to cover the cost of supplies that team members need to work from home.

Another 41% believe they won’t be reimbursed for expenses while working from home.

The survey found that 76% of people enjoy working from home, but employers could do more to help create a productive environment, as 69% of companies haven’t offered additional perks to ease the transition.

The company also asked respondents what items they most wanted for their home offices, and a standing desk, ergonomic chair, computer monitor, headphones and laptop stand rounded out the top five, making up nearly 70% of respondents.

Other desired items included a wireless keyboard and mouse (7%), Keurig coffee maker, (6%), yoga mat and ball (4.67%) and high-end water bottle (2%).

With the economy the way it is, budgets are tight across the board, so there may be little spending money to help outfit home offices for every employee, but companies are now being forced to consider how they can help their teams remain productive at home.

With videoconferencing now the preferred method of communication, organizations may want to look into headsets, microphones and webcams to help people communicate clearly and effectively.

If they’re like me and find it hard to work on just a small laptop screen, employees will need at least one additional monitor — especially if that’s what they’re used to in the office.

You audiovisual integrators are videoconferencing and remote work experts, so this is a great opportunity to help organizations support their workers during an incredibly difficult time.
