Bidding Qualifications and the CSI Master Format

Published: 2014-07-15

In the latest video question of the week from the NSCA Foundation, Chuck Wilson answers the following question:

“We are seeing electrical and general contractors bidding Division 27 and 28 work, and undercutting us with unqualified bidders. Isn’t that reserved for the AV and security integrators?”

Wilson discusses the CSI Master Format, which is used to organize all products and work results for a commercial project.

While the Master Format was designed to organize the specification manual and create divisions for the technology, products, and results of a project, this document is not a way to define trade jurisdiction. Wilson discusses some of the confusion about the divisions of this document, including 27 and 28, and how to make sure you get your company on that qualified bidder’s list.

“You’ll want to be out there in front of this, and well in advance of when the project hits the streets for bid,” Wilson explains.
