Distributed audio in the commercial realm performs a number of tasks, including covering up dead air, providing paging opportunities as needed, and allowing prioritized audio to appear automatically.
Dead air applications typically are pleasant background music installations. An office or shop may have something playing at a low sound pressure level simply to prevent that empty feeling.
This application isn’t very glamorous, but is probably one of the most commonly deployed distributed audio installations.
